(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 12:49 am (UTC)(link)

Yeah, this.

Re: Internet pet peeves

Responding to something you disagree with with an automatic "fuck you" or "kill yourself"

It tells me you're an immature reactionary who responds immediately with UTMOST OUTRAGE BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW THAT THIS IS A SLIGHT THAT CANNOT BE FORGIVEN.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not that this makes it okay, but I kind of think people saying "kill yourself" usually don't actually mean it? I always assumed they were either trolling or being sarcastic. So less reactionary, more being a flippant asshole. But definitely not cool and even dangerous in some cases. (I've seen people talking about suicide here receive those responses - WTF?!)

I can think of an instance where someone urged someone to literally kill themselves, but it was a string of really vile texts. (They were charged with murder about a month ago, IIRC. It's awful, the girl in question was smirking in the picture.)

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
If whoever they're talking to has been thinking of killing themself already, even a non-serious "kill yourself" can be the push it takes to make them do it. Not that you'd know it if they were thinking about it or not, but it's not a smart risk to take.

inb4 some smart aleck responds to this comment with "fuck you" or "kill yourself"

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Lol that'd be a glaring sign it got to them and hurt their ego if you ask me. So not exactly 'smart'.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
When people like in the thread above say "the internet" as though all of the internet is some kind of common space with the same rules and people

It's about as meaningful as "do women find buildings scary"

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's a generalization, and generalizations aren't the great evil "the internet" likes to pretend they are.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Wait so if something is a "pet peeve" of mine I think it's a "great evil"? Well that's a bit dramatic of you.

It annoys me a little bit because it's backward, that's all

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's more along the lines of "what are your pet peeves about the entire world?", which is also a perfectly okay question to ask.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I meant the "do women find The Internet scary" thread is meaningless

this one is for "any internet-related pet peeves" which is fine by me

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Tumblr and the sparkly snowflake culture it's bred.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Clickbait headlines, which seems to be everything nowadays. (Although it's happened for years now so you'd think I would be used to it.)

Also, people who post pictures of strangers on the internet who were doing Bad Things. Sometimes we have bad days. Sometimes you don't have the whole story. Sometimes it's none of your business.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
That IS so annoying. Half the time, you'll follow a link and it's some aggregated link BS rather than a REAL story that took time to put together. So annoying.

Re: Internet pet peeves

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhh seconding clickbait headlines so hard. They annoy me so much I refuse to click them on Facebook, ever. Conveniently cropped pictures, obnoxiously worded clickbait headlines, any website that tries to make a profit by writing a short article off of a youtube video that they don't own... (or any website ever that isn't Youtube itself which links a Youtube video)

Not tagging posts on Tumblr. It's the same idea as making a secret for an obscure fandom and not naming the fandom. A gif with a "luv this movie!" comment and then you can't tell me what movie it is? That shit's frustrating.

+1 (Plus if you use something to filter shit out you don't want to see and people don't tag it...very aggravating.)

Not being accusatory, hostile or pointlessly aggressive in advice giving is not the same as sugarcoating.

The whole "when someone says.... I hear....." annoys me to no end. Especially since many of them on tumblr amount to "when someone says 'I disagree with you' I hear 'I hate [some group] and want them all to die, also I kick puppies and steal candy from babies"

Basically what you're admitting is that you're not really listening to someone, and you've already made up your mind about them.

I'm sure there's some that make some point but a lot of them don't.

When you tell people why someone thinks something and they get mad at you for thinking the thing you don't think, someone else thinks.

Dude, never take a Philosophy course. You'll be filled with rage within five minutes.

rampant negativity

Jesus Christ get a blog nobody wants to join a community for your constant caterwauling and shitting on everything. (Unless it's really creative and funny. In most cases, however, it isn't. It's just unchecked rage, bitterness and hatred.)

also general nastiness directed toward something innocent, usually directed at some celebrity (I know, I know, it's my own damn fault for reading anything relating to celebs)

and anyone who injects POLITICS IN EVERYTHING, especially when politics does not begin to factor in the discussion or story. Any comment that includes the words "liberal," "conservative," "republican" or some demeaning derivative of, "democrat" or some demeaning derivative of, I know the conversation is going to suck wrinkly shitstained balls
