I think this is a bit ridiculous. There have been similar relationships before and since. Will-they-won't-they couples, friends and partners who end up falling for each other, chemistry. These are all things that have been done many times successfully. X-files is a good example, but it isn't the only good example.

Plus, these things are so subjective anyway. Chemistry is subjective. There are people who don't think Mulder and Scully work well romantically or who don't like the archetype, or don't see any chemistry, and that is fine.

ayrt

a) I don't even ship them.

b) When I say rip-off, I mean rip-off, not just "partners falling for each other." Do you even understand what a rip-off is?

God, you're embarrassingly stupid.

Well, then, if you mean a lot more specific than that with rip-off, then I'm going to disagree with you that Bones is a rip-off.

DA
I think it's unlikely that it's not inspired by the dynamic.

Inspired? Sure, by the X-Files and any number of other things with a similar dynamic. But the other anon seems to be suggesting a stronger definition of rip-off, one maybe meaning a near copy. And I don't see that at all.

NA Agreed.

God, you're embarrassingly impolite.

I think the similarities are conspicuous enough that a comparison between the two couples beyond "will they won't they" is fair, though. Like Mulder, Booth is the one who wants to believe and is more open to non-scientific explanations for things, though it tends to be more of a religious rather than paranormal nature. Bones, like Scully, is the hard science half of the team and the skeptic, so as a result, her take on a situation often clashes with Booth's ideas... much like Mulder and Scully.

It's not just the chemistry issue.
