I'm guessing you're expecting a different fandom culture with more closed cliques and to them you seemed pretty antiquated, or at least journal and forum based.

Either the discussion is out in the open, or it has become more private among fanfic writers who became friends.
If you were hoping to be directed towards a pairing skype group you probably need to look in its tumblr tags or something like that.
