I love that we're allowed to assume shittyness from an entire group. It's so cathartic to have an entire group that we can point to and go "Those guys are the scum, They probably love all the really awful shit and we're good people for hating them."

The is all I do on reddit, to be honest. Hate minorities and beat up women. All day, every day. Last time I was on /mashups all we did was talk about how much we hate those people. YOu know the ones.

Go to reddit for information on games? To share my love (or frustration) with other gamers? Never! I totally go there to hate on women and minorities.

When it's an especially good reddit day, we all go to the /puppies sub, load up the cutest pictures we can find, and kick the hell out of our monitors.

We need sites like 4chan and reddit so we can point our fingers and say, "Thass the bad site." So? what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide. How to lie. 4chan and reddit, they don't have that problem. They always tell the truth. Even when they lie.

You know, I really hate the idea that people being assholes are just "telling it how it is".

It's like those people who post that stupid quote on Facebook: "If you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best."

It's less about "telling it like it is" and more "At least I'm honest."

4chan can be accused of a lot of things. Bigotry, misogeny, misanthrophy. Nobody will ever accuse them of a lack of self awareness and make it stick however. Because anonymity means your full asshole flag can fly at will. And they'll all acknowledge they are horrible.

Hey it's a think society loves to do. Pick a scapegoat and blame all of one's sins and everyone's woes on that scapegoat so nobody has to face their demons and face the unpleasant truth that they and people they like have the ability to be horrible.

Nope. I reject your reality. All the wrongs in the world came from Scapegoat. We'd just have to get rid if Scapegoat and all in the world would be well....

But blaming all the problems of the internet on one site is pointless, unproductive and often a way to avoid facing your own problems, and the problems of your own site.

Don't forget, at the Boston Bombing incident, reddit also spawned a bunch of conspiracy nuts that went after innocent people they thought were the bomber, and caused a crapload of people to get harrased and have their lives ruined.
I don't 100% hate reddit or anything, but lol lets not pretend the site is wholly innocent and dosen't deserve some harsh criticism.

there are feminist subs on reddit, but the atmosphere on all the mains is very hostile. You'll be in the middle of a totally innocuous sub like r/adviceanimals or something and then BAM blatant sexism.
