a compilation of every (reasonable) criticism I've seen of tumblr-style social justice
(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 12:05 am (UTC)(link)Things I learned from tumblr. (Content warning for mentions of all sorts of unpleasant things.)
(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 12:06 am (UTC)(link)The existence of canon bisexual characters is gay erasure.
The existence of canon straight characters is gay erasure, bisexual erasure, AND asexual erasure!
Shipping fictional children in any context is pedophilia, even non-sexual shipping of the "Awwww, they're so cute together!" variety.
Furthermore, if you "age up" underage characters in your fan works, you are a pedophile. Because making drawings of a fictional character that depict them as a different age is exactly the same as those creepy countdown clocks made by fans of underage celebrities.
Defending the honour of fictional women is the most important thing ever. Real, living, breathing women should be attacked and harassed over it, because a fictional character's feelings are just so. fucking. important.
If you want to promote diversity in film and television, the best way to do so is to make up a racebent fancast! Sadly, you don't have a large pool to choose from; Idris Elba, Lucy Liu, Gina Torres, Lupita Nyong'o, [insert k-pop idol here], and whats-her-face from Doctor Who are the only non-white actors that exist. (Okay, that's not entirely true. Zoe Saldana also exists, but she doesn't count because I personally don't like her. If I dislike a celebrity, that means they are a racist homophobe and a bad person in general.)
You're a lesbian and you don't like this popular f/f ship?! TRAITOR. YOU MUST TURN IN YOUR LESBIAN CARD AT ONCE.
Every fictional character is autistic. All of them. No exceptions.
Tanning is exactly the same as blackface. Also, European ethnic groups never, ever have naturally dark skin or naturally curly hair.
Only white people are capable of being racist. Calling Arabs terrorists and "towelheads" and other racial slurs is only horrible and racist when white people do it. If a black person does it, it's okay!
Trans women and non-binary people can do no wrong. EVER.
Trans men, on the other hand, are evil incarnate.
Misogyny is terrible, except when it's aimed at teenage girls whose ships are "problematic". Then it's fine and dandy! Admirable, even!
Actually, ANY misogyny is okay as long as it's aimed at heterosexual cisgendered teenage girls. Teenage girls are the WORST PEOPLE EVER.
Similarly, homophobia is okay as long as it's directed at cis white people.
Being black, trans, or non-binary automatically cancels out any bigotry you may have toward other marginalized groups. Unless you're a man. Men are evil incarnate, especially those awful woman-hating truscum trans men.
Eating or cooking food from a culture that isn't yours is cultural appropriation. In fact, participating in anything at all that originated in another culture is cultural appropriation, regardless of the circumstances. How DARE you wear that traditional Korean outfit that your Korean relative gave you to wear at her wedding! HOW. DARE. YOU.
White people are not native to any country on Earth. They came from outer space to colonize and oppress everyone else. The colonizer vs. colonized narrative perfectly applies to EVERY COUNTRY AND SOCIETY ON EARTH. NO EXCEPTIONS.
European empires (like the British and the Romans) were the only bad empires. All those other, non-European empires like the Incans, Mayans, Aztecs, Akkadians, and Mongolians? They believed in peace and harmony and racial equality, and they certainly didn't BECOME empires in the first place by conquering and exploiting their neighbours! Only Europeans did that sort of thing.
Cleopatra was black, and anyone who says otherwise is whitewashing scum. Never mind that Ptolemy was ethnically Macedonian and Ptolemaic dynasty adopted the original Egyptian royalty's practice of marrying their siblings to keep the bloodline "pure"; Egypt is in Africa and Cleopatra was the Queen of Egypt, therefore Cleopatra MUST have been black. Hooray for historical revisionism!
European Jews had white privilege during the Holocaust, which was a "white genocide". Because antisemitism is totally 100% about religion, not about race or ethnicity at all. Jews have NEVER suffered because of white supremacism.
Speaking of the Holocaust; every horrific violation of human rights that has ever happened MUST be compared to the Holocaust. The transatlantic slave trade was "the Black Holocaust", residential schools were "the Native American Holocaust", the Rape of Nanjing was "the Chinese Holocaust", etc. Comparing genocides to each other like they're different brands of soda is not offensive or trivializing at all!
Speaking of genocide, if you're not a vegan you are actively participating in it. Unless you're poor. Poor people can't afford to be vegans. VEGANS ARE PRIVILEGED SCUM. (But eating meat is still an act of genocide.)
Interracial relationships are inherently abusive and appropriative. Mixed race children are abominations that should not exist, because their existence promotes colonialism.
Republicans are horrible, evil people... except for Caitlyn Jenner. She is a Flawless Queen (because trans women can do no wrong, even the Republican ones).
If you are privileged in any way, you don't have the "right" to be depressed or suicidal or traumatized. Only queer women of colour are "allowed" to have mental illness.
Classism? Duhhhhhh, what's classism? I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist. That's just something white people bring up when they're trying to get out of being accused of racism. Definitely not an actual, real life phenomenon that affects people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds.
If you are fat, you are destined to be fat forever and ever, and nothing you do can possibly change this. If you want to stop being fat, you're a bad person and SHAME ON YOU FOR GOING AGAINST YOUR SACRED FAT DESTINY!!!!! YOU CAN'T CHANGE FAT(E) AND YOU SHOULDN'T TRY! The fat-positive agenda is much more important than your physical and mental health or your bodily autonomy. Also, you shouldn't listen to doctors or scientists because they're all eeeeeevil and fatphobic.
IF YOU SHIP SOMETHING PROBLEMATIC YOU ARE SCUM AND SHOULD KILL YOURSELF. (Although if you're an abuse survivor, don't worry; I added a disclaimer that this doesn't apply to you! The disclaimer is either in teeny tiny text at the bottom of my post, or it's in the tags and buried under a bunch of other tags. But it is there, so this post shouldn't be upsetting or triggering to you at all!)
(Oh, and speaking of triggers: Everything that makes anyone even a little bit upset or uncomfortable is a trigger. Someone on the internet said a word I don't like, and the mild discomfort I felt when I read that word is exactly the same as what a person with PTSD experiences when they're having a flashback or a panic attack. EXACTLY THE SAME.)
Did I miss anything?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)Depression, anxiety, or any other mental illness are totally self-diagnosable and are a permanent get-out-of-everything-free card. You shouldn't feel bad about staying in bed for two weeks and losing your job, and anyone who tells you not to do that is oppressing you. In fact, anyone who does anything but constantly cater to your ever-changing whims is oppressing you.

Remember the SJW that went "Someone dox this racist bitch" about the 8-year old wearing the kimono? I've seen that sort of thing more than once.
