Hey, a Subeta player.

I miss the forums, they're too slow and so many people are just...not rude, but just peevish.

I just dress up my avatar.

Another Subeta player, wow!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I spend a lot of my time on the site doing things to collect beanbags/plushies personally

(Anonymous) 2016-01-10 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Flight Rising's got to have more going on than Dragon Cave, surely. At least the art is consistent. Some of the DragCave dragons are gorgeous, and some of them are abominations.

I thought I would get sick of Flight Rising, but I really haven't. I'm still completely hooked on the pretty dragons.

Same. I joined a year and a half ago, and I'm a middle-aged adult. I thought Id' get bored of it right away... though of course I left Neopets (multi-year member) for it, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised I've stuck with FR.

Wow, I just found/logged into my NP account. It's 11 years old. That's almost scary...

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-01-11 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This is actually my first pet site. I never did Neopets. I'm just really into dragons and into making them pretty and giving them nerdy names.

[personal profile] thistlechaser 2016-01-11 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure I'm very biased, but FR just seems like the better site than NP. The lack on breeding on NP was the nail in the coffin for me. Breedign dragons is fun! So much potential!
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-01-11 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Breeding is one of the best parts. Right now I'm making bank on butterfly hatchlings. And so many pretty hatchlings going off to new homes. It always makes me happy when someone likes one of my babies.
thistlechaser: (Default)

[personal profile] thistlechaser 2016-01-11 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! While I of course love making treasure, I'd much rather sell a dragon to a new home than kill it off send it up to the army in the sky, even if it's for less money.

I'm slacking off on butterfly hatchlings, since I don't want them myself. Remember when we had iridescent but no shimmer? Crystal but no facet? How those hatchlings had so little value compared to the one with the matching gene, once that second gene came out? So some part of me is pulling a big NO to to butterfly without the matching body gene. :/ It's illogical, but I'm having a hard time getting passed it.

I just really like butterfly. I think it looks really good with iridescent. I'm sure I'll eventually gene up my butterfly pairs with petal, but right now I think it looks pretty on its own. I'm just super into butterfly. I didn't think anything would be as nice to me as the triple shiny genes, but butterfly is up there.

I really miss how Subeta used to be. I play FR but I'm not nearly as into it as I was into Subeta.

If lack of content is your bone to pick with FR, then you've got the right idea staying away for a few months at a time. Content additions sure are random and piecemeal and when they do happen, they're not terribly substantial. I hope it's just that they're busy fixing the code and don't want to add too much before overhauling things, but who knows.

...I'm still mildly addicted to pretty pixel dragons though.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I LOL'd... I mean, Subeta have been "fixing the code" for pretty much the entirety of their 10+ year existence, and yet it only seems to get increasingly more broken than ever! Isn't that pretty much the biggest reason that people abandon that site for other places like FR to begin with? (See further: the recent Christmas Tree debacle.)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I have a very love-hate relationship with Subeta. I'm a very active player, and I post on the forums a lot, and I think overall there's a lot of good content and certainly enough stuff to do every day to keep me engaged.

But on the other hand I think they're absolute shit at running a game company, and I wish they'd sack half their artists and instead hire some programmers and a competent manager and fix all the fucking endless problems.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I gave up a few years ago, after they kept increasing the number of pets you can have - for an ever-increasing amount of RL monies, of course. It was originally 20ish pets, now I hear it's up to 50+...? And since pets have unique names, it's the same handful of older/richer players that end up hoarding all the good ones. Which even then wouldn't be so bad if they weren't such horrible snobs about it, passing judgement on people who "don't really love" their bunch of coloured pixels and spend hours on coding and stories and art and blah blah just to "prove" it. Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Actually the pet situation has improved dramatically! They just barely gave away one or two pet slots in the past year, slots are way cheaper now, and also Now you can buy (iirc) five pet slots with sP.

I have a lot of things to bitch about wrt Subeta (like the profits from CWs going to seemingly Keith's vacation fund, he's like Notch all over again) but pet slots are one of the few things I think they've actually done a good job addressing.

AYRT

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, ugh, CWs. I forgot about those because I was never into the whole human avatars thing, but they generally seemed to be just another mess that 1) caused more snobbery/elitism (they're not much of an option for most people who aren't artists or have a LOT of real money to spend on the site) and 2) sucked away a whole lot of staff time that could have been better spent on other things (literally any other thing!) than quality-checking user-submitted art.

I never worried too much about what they used people's money for since I didn't pay to play the site (and I did appreciate that it was possible to do that, though more and more stuff seemed to require cash shop credits). Honestly though given the way so many of the problems never got fixed, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out the money was not going back into site maintenance.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm a member of both sites. Been on FR for two years now, a member of Subeta for eleven (I first joined in a few weeks before the Restart, then was among the first three hundred people to rejoin after it reopened). My attention span for FR frequently wavers, so I've kept myself lair locked for a while now so that I will actually work on the dragons I already have. I'm much more active on Subeta, though I spend most of my time questing and working on my pets.

I find with FR that my interest tends to lessen a lot at times until something draws me back in. Making quests/goals for myself helps some. I think part of my issue is the limited lair space. As I don't want to get rid of any dragons, but I can't really add new ones unless I get rid of older ones. And I like collecting pretty dragons. And dressing them up.

Same. Nice art. Not particularly fun to play.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Meanwhile, I've been checking Flight Rising practically every day since someone last made a secret about it here to see if they'll finally, finally, let me sign up. I'm starting to feel bitter about the whole thing, and I haven't even been able to join the site yet.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
And just after posting this I checked their front page and saw that they've decided on a sign up window. Yay!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Happy dragon-rearing anon! o/

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
I was coming here to mention this! Finally they have a window open this week (starting tomorrow in fact) and for once it's actually running multiple days, rather than just for 24 hours! I missed more than one sign-up due to the short openings at short notice, before I finally caught one last year.

...Bit unfortunate that it comes at a moment when there's a four-way Dom battle going on, I know there has been lamenting in my flight that we might not have the free time to do all the nice stuff for newbies that we usually try and do.
