There are movies I like but I've only been able to watch once because they make me cringe so much. I find it really hard to stomach stories where the entire plot is built on the fact that someone can't or won't explain something to someone else in a calm, rational manner. Like Ella Enchanted. Very sweet movie, such a cringeworthy premise that I've only watched it once. Cringe factor is also the reason why there are so many chick flicks I love with Hugh Grant in them that I can only rewatch if I've forgotten at least 60% of what happens in the movie.

I also liked the idea behind Sleepless in Seattle being a movie about how movies screw up your brain about romance, but the fact that they did it by making a movie that's supposed to screw up people's brains about romance makes it a movie I really can't rewatch.

The ending of Sleepless in Seattle was a foregone conclusion from the start, but I still really wanted Bill Pullman's character to at least get a happy ending before the movie ended ;_; I know his character is supposed to highlight the fact that romance movies always encourage rooting for 'the good guy', even if 'the bad guy' isn't really all that bad, but I still wished they hadn't made his character so sympathetic.

It must be a long time since I've seen this, because I completely don't remember him in it. I do however feel really bad for Patrick Dempsey in Sweet Home Alabama for I imagine the same reason. Poor guy was left practically at the altar.

You really should read the book. It is a million times better than the movie, and different in several key ways (such as Ella being intelligent).

Honestly the Ella Enchanted movie is such a huge bummer because of how much better Ella is in the books :(

spoilers for Ella Enchanted movie

Ugh, yes. The absolute WORST is how in the end she breaks the curse by looking in the mirror I mean what the fuck. In the book she tried that on PAGE 1 and was disappointed that it didn't work.
Ella in the book is boss. The movie is tripe.
