An anime with a gay main character, and I haven't heard of it? It must either be extremely new or extremely shitty.

...Why would you care about ANN? It's not so bad for news, but everything else is cringeworthy.

I still haven't found another anime reviewer I like as much as Hope Chapman, and so far as I can tell, ANN is the only place she posts anymore. I don't pay much attention to anything non-Chapman on the site. (Cringeworthy?)

Hope still does anime reviews? :0
I thought she quit for good years ago.

She's happily abandoned TGWTG and no longer does video review, but yeah, she still loves anime and does written review on ANN.

Thecartdriver is an anime review site I come to often, even if I don't watch much anime. They are pretty open minded and very hilarious (you should read their review of Mahouka). Their first impression of this anime seems that they are not impressed with the mystery part and would like to watch where the gay character thing goes.

Thiiiis?! How have I not heard about this? It seems like anime is either yaoi genre, or not-yaoi genre where the guys never confirm they are gay. I am pretty sure hardly any manga, let alone anime, actually explore gayness. Better go watch it now.

Have you read Otouto no Otto? It's a seinen manga written by a gay author about a straight man who is visited by the husband of his dead twin brother.

I haven't, but I'll check it out! I read a couple lesbian manga (distinguished from yuri because they actually discuss homosexuality and such) but I don't think I've read much non-yaoi gay manga. Thanks for the rec. :)

Could you tell me the names of the lesbian manga you read, pretty please?

(http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/hyakuoku_nengo_no_kimi_no_koe_mo/) and pretty much anything by (http://www.mangago.me/r/l_search/?name=Yamaji%20Ebine) are good bets on yuri manga that discuss LGBT issues/experience.

Yay, thanks!

ayrt

The first one that comes to mind - I had to check my old old doujinshi folder - is "Moonlight Flowers". It's about an (adult) Japanese woman whose family is arranging a marriage between her and a guy, but she falls in love with a woman. The characters actually talk about gay issues and even go to gay bars and such, it's not incidental same-sex attraction. But it's been a long time since I've read it!

I've never read that but it sounds good. Added to my list.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, it's a student (child) with a crush on his teacher (adult) so it's not the representation people are looking for.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not cool with student/teacher pairings but I think it's pretty natural for a young person to crush on somebody, even if it's a teacher. A crush doesn't guarantee reciprocity.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
This isn't one of those teacher/student romance stories, it's just an unrequited crush. And it's awesome that the series is giving the gay kid's crush the same treatment than his girl friend straight's crush on the teacher instead of using it as a 'lol, he likes his male teacher, what a weirdo' joke.
