Ok. I'm fucking done. I know some pretty cool people in the feminist movement and thanks to them I know about just about every vile thing any notable man has ever done said or implied. I have never heard about this until I started following some anti-feminists. Why is the rest of the feminist community not re-tweeting this shit? Why is it that I know that Matt Damon is a douchbag who hates WoC, or that thermostats are being used as weapons against women in the workplace, but this shit goes under the fucking radar? I try talking to my friends about this, and they deny it. They tell me it's bullshit. I show them the link and they say it's taken out of context. I show them the context and they tell me they don't understand what the big deal I'm making about this. I have spent too much time today arguing with people who should believe that this is vile and should be condemning it. I love my friends, but this is bullshit and hypocrisy. These are not fucking radfems I'm friend with. These are normal well meaning self aware people who I know genuinely believe that feminism is supposed to be about equality between the sexes. Why do they have such a fucking blind spot about this and shit like this? Why can no-one else seem to see that this is a problem? Our lack or reaction to this compared to our reaction to almost any thing a guy says or does is a problem?

Am I wrong to be upset by this? Am I making a big deal out of nothing?

Well fuck it. I'm out. We say that guys have a privilege that blinds them from appreciating our issues and that's sure as shit true, but what's our excuse? What do we have blinding us to this? We say feminism is about equality and it cares for men as much as it cares for women? I don't think I believe that any more. Shit given the things that I've been called to day, things that would have my opponents labelled misogynists and worse if they were men and I was talking about women's issues "You're over reacting" "You're being stupid" "It's just one person" "You just don't" FUCKING "understand what she's saying" "Go back to a voice for men" "Get back in the kitchen if you like it there so much" I'm not even sure I believe feminism is about women any more. Feminism is about feminism. And it will cover over shit that makes it look bad, and shit on women just as hard as the patriarchy does if those women are talking about the wrong stuff.

Hm. Most feminists I interact with would condemn this, and I think a lot of them don't repeat it because they don't hear of it and/or don't want to give it attention.

It's so sad that your friends are giving you shit about this. I agree with you completely - that line is awful.

"Not giving it attention" is kind of part of the problem, though. The majority response to things like this seems to waver between support and "ugh you're only talking about a ~vocal minority~ so just shut up and it'll go away", which...I mean, it's not a vocal minority and it's not going away.

It is a minority, but your point stands that we should be giving these attitudes as much attention as any other sexist stuff.

Why would it need to be discussed tho? So you think she's wrong and you don't agree with her. That doesn't make her any less capable of running a study. The woman basically single handedly proved rape culture, her holding an opposing opinion to you isn't really the issue we should be focusing on I think.

Don't worry about labels or groupings. Just lay out your opinions and see which individuals act like assholes when responding. Any quarrel to be had is with them, not a nebulous group, and the same goes for any allegiance you might form.

Feminism does not have a single definition, nor a single prophet, nor a single agenda. And I don't even know who Mary Koss is. But she sounds like a right twit, who is overly fixated on the idea of 'penetration' as opposed to 'violation.'

You sound like you were being pretty ignorant to be honest. I'm sure you have a legitimate grievance but the fact is no-one has any obligations to listen to you or take your grievance seriously and stomping around like a baby without her bottle isn't going to make people treat you or your problem any better.

I agree that's all very shitty but I think abandoning feminism is a bit much.

If it helps any, I'm a feminist and I find that comment sickening. My stomach actually turned. It's a bullshit definition of rape and I wish people were less concerned with splitting hairs about what's really rape, and more concerned with helping the victims of sexual violence of any kind.

I agree that it's dumb as hell. I don't talk about it because I never heard about it before, presumably because it's dumb as hell and I mostly don't hang out with people who are dumb as hell.

Anyway call yourself what you want, I don't care. Just be a decent person (not blitzwing).
