I was hoping I could get you to be a bit more transparent than that.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
So you, the guy who runs an anon discussion board will not discuss topics with anon's? They have to sign in to know your opinion on a topic which you are showing some biases for?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's kinda not the point, tho, is it? It's an anon community. telling people they have to go unanon to know your biases in certain topics that affect how welcome they feel in the community is kinda shitty move.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not asking you as a mod. I'm asking you as a guy. What are your thoughts on feminism. Which way do you personally lean?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
If you're asking him on a person level, rather than as a mod, it's his right not to have to answer that publicly.

Dude, if you wanted to know, you'd PM him. You don't really want to know - you want to start shit.

It's 100% reasonable for the mod of a comm to decline to discuss political and/or controversial topics on the comm and I feel like the reasons for this should be really obvious.

It's not an anon community, sugar cookie.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
NA

it is, tho? it's a community for sharing secrets. it is by it's nature an anon community.

It's not an anon community, people are just allowed to post anon on it. Why do you think you should get some special privilege of anon-safety when trying to call out the mod in public? This seems like a perfectly sensible solution being offered, if you want to know what his stance is so badly, go unanon and ask in private.

I'n curious to see if this flies

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-01-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
As an alternate approach: how are threads on feminism or anti-feminism typically judged within the context of moderation? What makes a thread of that nature particularly likely to be locked?

Re: I'n curious to see if this flies

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
That's a remarkably stupid approach, because even sincere dealers are going to be influenced by their pre-existing assumptions in making that judgment, and trolls are just going to go nuts wild.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
You mean you know from 10 years experience that people on an anon community want to stay anon and you are hiding behind that to protect yourself?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
If you know that people like to retain privacy about certain things, then it would follow you should understand why Case might not want to talk about things publicly.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. and him saying "I'm not willing to talk openly about my thoughts on feminism" would be a fine answer. One that betrays a degree of moral cowardice and sort of answers the question anyway, but case is instead hiding behind a shitty tactic.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Disingenuous.

More accurately, someone is not willing to talk openly about their thoughts on feminism in a place where they cannot help but be speaking in a mod position, thereby putting pressure on people to conform to it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
And him deleting threads more willingly if they are pro-feminist? How does that not force people to conform? If he was open about it at least we would know that he has this bias and could react accordingly

DA

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe because of a history of how discussions go in more public forums and how shitty people use anon to be dicks to people when they don't like what they have to say, Case is actually being damn smart not to just trust people.

Your bitching that it's an "unfair shitty tactic" just betrays that he's right not to trust you.

Trying to pressure someone into talking about stuff when/where they're not comfortable doing so is creepy and not cool nonny.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's what he said.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
You seem more pissed that it's a successful tactic that can't really provide an answer either way. Just own it.
