I like that book. There was a line that stuck with me, something like "she thinks I've never experienced anything, though I see the end of the world every day and still have to keep doing normal things" (the actual quote was much better, but I don't have the book on hand).

I think my favorite stories were the one about the invisible child and the one where Moominpappa followed the hattifatteners.

'The Fillyjonk Who Believed in Disasters'!

I read that story when I was, maybe, eight or so years old? I didn't really understand why it "clicked" for me, but it basically haunted me for years. Then I read it again as an adult diagnosed with anxiety-related issues and it was like a punch in the gut.

Although as a crabby old antisocial git, I now relate at least as strongly to 'The Hemulen Who Loved Silence'.

"Gaffsie is a jackass, she thought. A silly woman with cakes and pillow-slips all over her mind. And she doesn't know a thing about flowers. And least of all about me. Now she's sitting at home thinking that I haven't ever experienced anything. I, who see the end of the world every day, and still I'm going on and putting on my clothes, and taking them off again, and eating and washing-up the dishes and receiving visits, just as if nothng ever happened!"

That is a really cool quote. I want to read this now.
