(Anonymous) 2016-01-14 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)I think my favorite stories were the one about the invisible child and the one where Moominpappa followed the hattifatteners.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 02:04 am (UTC)(link)I read that story when I was, maybe, eight or so years old? I didn't really understand why it "clicked" for me, but it basically haunted me for years. Then I read it again as an adult diagnosed with anxiety-related issues and it was like a punch in the gut.
Although as a crabby old antisocial git, I now relate at least as strongly to 'The Hemulen Who Loved Silence'.
I nearly always have this book on hand.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)Don't you think it could be the other way around, and that's why it's a secret? I also studied literature, and while my university was very acceptant of different perspectives and sources, a friend studying at another university was pretty much told that she WOULD do her dissertation on Shakespeare, because anything ~avant-garde~ like, say, 21st-Century Lit, was way out of the field of reference for the supervisors, and they wouldn't help her if she tried.
Meanwhile I wrote mine based on a shitty fourth-gen fansub.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)Have you read Tove Jansson's non-Moomin short stories? I remember coming across some, and they were very impressive as well.
