Exactly. It's especially weird when it's porn. I mean, if it's character/reader fic, I can understand that even if I don't read it, but I'd rather not self-insert as an anime dude getting fucked in the ass.

That's a reason I had a problem with this one flash fiction we read in a workshop I took. I said that I thought that it was forcing the reader to put themselves in the protagonist's position, so we'd have to empathize with her stupid decisions and the professor said she read it as the protagonist distancing herself from the narrative. I think that's very clever. It didn't change my mind on the story but it made me think that it has its uses.
