Lando Vs Han

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Lando was a more skillfull rogue, a better hero, and a more interesting character than han. The only reason Han was given the spotlight was because of the whiteness.

They're both fucking rad as hell. I see no reason to use one to delegitimize the other.

Re: Lando Vs Han

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
but this is what we do in fandom now.

Lando also had a cape. Capes are awesome.

But Lando also has a moustache, which is so much less awesome.

They're both pretty cool....like how did Lando get that position in Cloud City? How the hell does Cloud City work?

I'm pretty sure it was some kind of elaborate Oceans 11-style heist

I would love to see that movie if there was any chance of it living up to my imagination

Space-heist movie, why aren't we getting that instead of The Adventures of 20-something Han.

he won it in a sabacc tournament, like any self respecting professional gambler.

:P

Yeah I'd rather see a young Lando series than a young Han series like they're talking about.

Re: Lando Vs Han

I think he was given the spotlight because Georges Lucas decided he was going to be one of the main characters while he decided that Landa would be a secondary character only introduced in the sequel.

Re: Lando Vs Han

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Lando was also tangential to the storyline, but don't let that stop your OMG!racist line of thinking.

Re: Lando Vs Han

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think they were both cool. Lando was way more stylish though. I wanted to know more about Lando than Han.

Re: Lando Vs Han

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Err, no? The reason Han gets the spotlight is because he was a main character throughout the trilogy.

Also, I'm not sure how you found him more interesting. He was interesting, sure, but he didn't really grow as a character as Han did. His sleaziness from the start was explained as trying to do the right thing, then he continues to try to do the right thing - nothing really amazing there.

Well from a story point of view he's given the spotlight because Lando is a side character who only shows up past halfway the second movie. Just saying.

Or Han got the spotlight because he was in the first film, and Lando showed up the second half of the second film (which ended with Han in peril). Poor Lando - his timing was off.

I don't know that I think he was better or more interesting (if he had as much screentime as Han or had a more dramatic character arc maybe I would've felt differently), but he was still a good character. And hot as hell. (The cape has already been mentioned, but it deserves another.)

The cape deserves lots of mentions.

I love Han, but he would never be able to pull off a cape.

The thought of Han in a cape doesn't even compute.

I bet Leia would laugh in his face.

I'm not really into this "pitting people/characters/other against each other when it's not necessary" thing. That said, I do remain confused about Lando not being a more popular character than he is. I remember he originally left a much bigger impact on me as a "loveable rogue" type character than Han did. Or felt more memorable, or something.

Also I continue to be surprised that I've never run into anyone shipping Han and Lando with each other. It *seems* like the kinds of characters in the kind of a dynamic that lots of people would ship - honestly, if I didn't know anything about how Star Wars is perceived in culture, but someone told me it's hugely popular, then if I watched the original trilogy, I'd probably assume this to be one of the fandom juggernaut ships. I mean, I'm sure that some people ship it, but. (This isn't a plea for people to start shipping Hando. I'm just surprised, is all. Maybe most people development shipping goggles a few years AFTER watching Star Wars, or something.)

Well Lando is still alive (that we're aware of) so he wins, obviously.
