To be honest it's probably a lot to do with size kink. The way the smaller one gets shipped with the taller one is a popular kink.

Also, I always wondered what qualifies as topping and bottoming? Is it whose dick is in who or is it who is taking the initiative? I see a lot of fics/art that portray Hinata as the one in control and Kageyama as the flustered and embarrassed one. Bisexual trans guy anon here with firsthand experience so perhaps I can explain a bit! :D Topping and bottoming within the gay/bi community refer solely to who is putting their dick where. I sympathize with OP too because who tops and who bottoms has literally nothing to do with what you look like, it's what gets your crank going sexually. Hinata being a short guy is going to mean absolutely zero on whether or not he wants to put his dick inside Kageyama, or have Kageyama put his dick inside him, or both. (Lots of young gay/bi guys tend to do a mix of both too, and then depending on the individuals in the relationship some sort of fall into mostly set top/bottom roles, and others are firmly versatile. FWIW, I could definitely see Kageyama and Hinata as versatile, and Kageyama would probably be really nervous/embarrased as hell about bottoming at first, so I imagine there would be a lot of wheedling and pleading on Hinata's part to get what he wants lol.)

If you're talking about actual power dynamics within a m/m couple, you'll use words like "service top" or "submissive top" for a guy who likes to top in large part because that's what brings his partner (the bottom) pleasure. And bottoms who take control and order around their tops are called "power bottoms" or "dominant bottoms". However, lots of people don't really have power dynamics that are noticeable at all in the bedroom and it would just be broken down into who enjoys getting fucked, doing the fucking, or both.

Different Anon. If we consider that yaoi came to be as a feminist fantasy where women can subject their male peers to porn treatment they get in comics, we still get it. But! Over the years it evolved a lot, same as Japanese society and lots of media. So, I'd say that anon above is correct in the summary.

While I am weeping he's correct :P, since holy hell, gay dating scene is rid with these minefields. Everyone has their own preferences, same as in fiction and writing couples ie. one option can prevail.
