My fandom imploded due to constant drama and canon events.

I tried to stick around, but it became so unpleasant that I couldn’t deal anymore.

So, I stopped posting my fic and meta publicly.

Now I just share it with a couple friends. They all give kind, thoughtful comments, even if they didn't, though, I would still write it and just lock it away for the joy of enjoying this canon.

I’m much happier, but I’m still disappointed that I had to be forced to do this.

I just wanted to enjoy a canon and have a peaceful fandom experience without constant fighting, drama and fighting that reminds me of high school bullshit.

I wish that wasn’t too much to ask.

This is why I'm glad to kinda hang around on the fringes of my favorite fandoms. I talk with a few random fans I've met online, and we have good discussion/critique of the shows we like, and I leave it at that. Also helps that some of the shows I like either ended their run long ago or are in their latter years, and the fandom activity's kinda quiet for the most part as a result (and I'm not on Tumblr, either, so I'm not running into whatever drama might be going on there).

Haven't had to deal with being hesitant to publicly post fic due to fandom drama, though. I'm glad that you broke away from that drama, and are in a happier space in general as a result, but I am sorry that your experience in fandom got so nasty all the same. Hopefully someday things'll calm down a little with the fandom and maybe you can dip your toe back in there again if you so wish.

I can't figure out what fandom because the fandom that the hat makes me think of I haven't seen that kind of drama in, so I must be missing a reference to a much bigger/more active/more drama-filled one...

But either way, OP, I'm sorry you had to flee a bad scene, and I'm glad you've still got friends you can enjoy your fandom with, even if it's a very small circle right now.

Is this about White Collar?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-22 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
What happened in White Collar?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-22 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
The DW fandom got so claustrophobically cliquey that a huge number of people left a couple of years ago with a whole series of fights, flouncing etc. I think the main couple of clique people who ran everything are still trying to pretend their audience hasn't shrunk to an increasingly small echo chamber, or at least that was the case a few months ago when I last could be bothered to check it out.

Sucks. It used to have good fic output.

Huh? What happened in White Collar fandom? Admittedly I dropped out like a season before the end, but when I was in it everybody seemed pretty chill?

What fandom? Or would that give OP away?

I'm sorry you had to go through that, OP. It really sucks when fandom takes away the fun part of being involved and make it all about drama instead of their shared love for a series.

I'm sorry OP, it's awful that you feel that way about your fandom but I can understand the need to leave when it gets too awful for you. Hopefully things may calm down at some-point and you can go back, but in the mean-time I hope the space from it all gives you some much-needed breathing room.

To be honest fandom is what completes the experience for me. If the fandom is shitty, then no amount of canon is going to sate me. I need the meta, the fics, the memes, the art, the whole shebang.

If you can find a happy medium with a small group of fandom then it should be alright, but all the drama just sucks the fun out of everything.

Maybe Sherlock? Idk, but SPN, Sherlock and Teen Wolf are the first fandoms to come to mind when I think of wank.

I get it, though. If a fandom isn't enjoyable for you anymore, there's no reason to participate. Sometimes a bit of fandom can go a long way.

This is unlikely (not to mention OP probably won't see it) but Rumbelle or maybe SwanQueen from OUAT?
