TFA had a great opening weekend in China and has surpassed $100 million in ticket sales there.

Based on that alone, I rather strongly doubt the veracity of the rest of your post.

Yeah, I mean I've seen some seriously WTF stereotypes held by Chinese people (specifically Chinese people although I'm sure Koreans and Japanese people are also weird), but when it comes to specific black people, especially famous black people, I kind of doubt it. God knows they sell enough Kobe jerseys in China.

Well....no. It had a okay opening (it way underperformed) and then dropped by 72%. It was beaten by a animated movie sequel about bears this weekend.

Ah. Well, that's a fair point. I stand corrected on the "great opening" front.

However, that isn't the catastrophic failure that OP was suggesting, and and there doesn't seem to be anything out there that corroborates their other claims.

There has been some sketchy stuff on Disney's part (like changing the posters so that Finn is much smaller). But yeah, hard to say what the cause is. I expect a lot is the fact Star Wars is not a huge thing in China.
