I don't know about "all the evidence points to it", but I do think it would require less work to pull off than the other pairings. (Not that I don't think Sherlock and John have plenty of chemistry, build-up and affection to construct a relationship from, but with Mary around it would take a good bit of time and effort to break John and Mary up, then pair Sherlock and John up. I don't think it will ever happen. And Sherlock and Molly...I just don't see it. Sherlock respects Molly, and I think he likes her more than most people, but imo that's about it.)

Isn't this the only scene they've had together, too?

Molly would probably be more likely to get together with Lestrade, but I would be fine with Mycroft and Lestrade.

They briefly had a scene together when Sherlock flees from the hospital and Lestrade goes to Mycroft to get ideas of where he might be hiding... but that's it as far as I can remember. (Also, the scene in the secret is all in Sherlock's head, so if it's shippy then maybe Sherlock ships it.)

Maybe it's time for me to rewatch the show because I don't remember the scene you describe! Getting old...

That muddles things further, then. (Though if Sherlock ships them, maybe they are well suited for one another. He should be able to 'see' enough to predict their 'type'.)

Hm, you don't need to break up John & Mary to get John and Sherlock together, you just need them to be okay with a threesome. Much easier.

Okay, I'll admit that would be much easier, though I don't personally see Sherlock being too into that.
