Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So apparently that god-awful piece of human garbage Greg Elliott will not be seeing jail time for harassing and abusing women on-line. Disappointing but not surprising.

After reading this article, the judge made the correct choice. http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/toronto-man-found-not-guilty-in-twitter-harassment-trial-widely-viewed-as-a-canadian-first

Two people got into a slapfight on Twitter and the women decided to throw a fit even though they were also saying shit about him.

Obviously nayrt, but I completely agree. I don't think it should have gone to court, but at least the legal precedent went in the right direction.

Lol. They were mad because he used THEIR hashtags. Bwahahaha.

Wait, did he just argue with them? I'm googling but I can't find what he said.

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I imagine once it became legal proceedings it had to be taken down. I also imagine it was pretty bad.

"But Elliott's tweets contained nothing of a "violent or sexual nature," and there was no indication he intended to hurt them, Knazan said.

In his tweets, Elliott was largely explaining himself and furthering his views "however offensive or wrong they may be," the judge said, while recognizing the language could be "vulgar and sometimes obscene.""

So basically someone used vulgar language on the internet while having an argument. ARREST THE TERRIBLE PERSON!

Also, that women looks exactly like I thought she would.

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not vulgar it was violent and threatening.

Why would you want to set a precdnt for two way onljne arguements to be harassment? That only gives evil sexists and racists the ability to cry harrassment for you wielding yiur pure sword of holyjustice at them even if they respond.

If it were a one way arguement you might have a point

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't stop when he was supposed to stop. That's what makes it harrassment. Doing to a marginalised group also makes it abuse, but the not stopping when he was told it was over is what makes it harrassment.

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't stop because the women kept talking back to him.

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So if a sexist tells you that the argument is over, you sit down? Be honest.

Good lord, I hope you're trolling. Otherwise, you need to enroll in some critical thinking classes and stop regurgitating everything you read on Tumblr.

By the way, this discussion is over. Don't harass me with a response.

Going through the court transcripts, libel suit incoming. Admitting in court to lying about someone being a pedophilia is pretty damning lads.

Can you link to those, I'd like to read that. Who lied, btw?

http://www.canlii.org/en/on/oncj/doc/2016/2016oncj35/2016oncj35.html

Q. You knew that ... you knew personally that Gregory Elliott was responding to defend himself?

A. He’s entitled to defend himself to the world, but not to me.

Q. Okay.

A. He’s not entitled to an audience from me, Mr. Murphy.

Q. Okay. And that’s what it comes down to, would you agree with me, that you don’t believe that Mr. Elliott is entitled to defend himself to you?

A. To me. Yeah ... no, I don’t believe he is.

Q. Right. Okay. No matter what you say to or about Mr. Elliott, agreed?

A. There were a lot of people who backed me up on what I said about him, a lot of people, Mr. Murphy.

Q. Two of whom are ...

A. Two of the dozens, yeah.

Q. Two of whom are the complainants in this case, right?

A. Yes. Yes.4

By tweeting to, and about, Mr. Elliott – but yet at the same time demanding that Mr. Elliott not respond to her – it appears as though Ms. Guthrie had expected that the Twitter Rules would apply to everyone except her.

Q. But by the time you met Detective Bangild, you already testified to this, you were aware that she was either 18 or 19, agree?

A. Yes.

Q. Right. Good. So not really trying to help out Mr. Elliott when you’re not mentioning the fact it’s actually an adult, right?

A. My position wasn’t really that I wanted ... I was not trying to help Mr. Elliott.

Q. Right.

A. He was stalking me. So no, I wasn’t trying to help me. I wasn’t trying to harm him unduly, but I was not trying to help him and I was not trying to ... yeah.

Q. Right. In your view handing tweets alleging Mr. Elliott’s a pedophile without correcting the officers receiving them, is not trying to harm Mr. Elliott, right?

A. Wasn’t trying to harm him, no.

Don't worry, he'll never work again, and his legal charges will cripple him. He'll be starving on the street in no time.

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want him to starve, but yeah, knowing he'll never get another job does make this seem less like a loss.

Re: Harrasser found not guilty

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
No he won't. He can make a book deal and speaking tour out of this easy as fuck.

I haven't read the judgement, but I hope that the accusers have to cover his defense costs. Problem solved.

We've only lost this one. There will be more cases like this and we only need to win once. One win and we have can shut this gamergate shit down.
