I find it very easy to tell the difference because I've seen enough well written brats and badly written heroine brats."

Isn't that what the secret says? It specifically mentions female characters that are supposed to be feisty, strong characters (i.e. sympathetic) but don't come off well so instead they turn out like the "badly written heroine brats" you referred to.
