meh, a lot of mainstream stuff has spoiled brats as daughter characters. it really seems like the writer guys just kinda hatelove their daughters

It is a phase that many tween/teen girls go through. Boys have their own version of insufferable behaviour.

This. Teenage boys and teenage girls are each obnoxious in their own way.

That might be part of it, but I think a lot of it is just lazy writing where people fall back on stereotypes instead of taking the trouble to develop a well rounded character. Examples of well written teenage characters in media that isn't specifically YA are rare, and well written teenage girls are even rarer.
