I don't have a problem with you liking OP, but I think that it's weirdly limited to only like ONE media property to the exclusion of all else. One story. Out of the millions that humanity has created.

My thoughts exactly. Not that it's any skin off my nose, but ONE piece of media? see what I did there I'd get bored, and I say that as someone who never really gets tired of stuff. I still need a variety of stuff.

I gave it a much fairer shot than I should have, and quit after Robin was introduced because I got tired of the misogyny.

New male crewmembers/companions = immediately welcomed aboard even if they're convicted criminals

New female crewmembers/companions = evil bitches who can't be trusted until they risk their lives for everyone else

There are all sorts of issues of sexism in One Piece (see everything pertaining to Rebecca who basically epitomizes all these problems) but to write Nami and Robin off as evil bitches says more about you then anything else given that they never came across as such nor were they ever written as villains.

Maybe you misread the comment. Nami and Robin were written and presented as evil bitches right off, until they nearly got killed protecting the other protagonists. They were both introduced as villains at first. Same with Vivi.

Villainous? Perhaps. But morality is subjective as shit in One Piece given that everyone is a goddamn pirate and you have characters like Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law crucifying people for shits and giggles and the other removing people's hearts just because he can and they're still painted as good guys or better than the real villains who do shit like enslave nations/poison kids/try to become god/black market weapons dealing/etc.

Even Marines can barely be called villains.

Nami I'll agree can be portrayed as a bitch, but Robin and Vivi never were. Vivi was an incompetent villain and Robin was just stoic. Not to mention Luffy had all their approval almost right off the bat and Luffy = moral goodness and all that jazz.

So agree to disagree.

I guess. My point is that the female characters had to prove they were trustworthy (to everyone except Luffy, who borders on Too Dumb to Live most of the time so I don't even trust his opinion even though I was supposed to), while the male characters never do.

I get where you're coming from (especially if you only watched up to before Skypia) but still, there's holes in it. Even if you exclude Luffy the other crew mates weren't trustful of each other

Zoro = first mate = grandfathered in so nobody had to content him being there
Sanji = I'll give you that one, outside of Zoro's intolerance of him
Usopp = had to get the shit kicked out of him by Luffy to rejoin after he quit
Chopper = He had to patch up Nami, Luffy, and Sanji and fight Warpol to get Nami and Sanji on board with him joining the crew
Franky = introduced as a villain
Brook = not trusted initially

and because he's showing no signs of fucking going anywhere I'll count him too
Law = distrustful as hell of him. Shichibukai and were constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop for him to sell out Luffy.

It does suck that Nami and Robin were introduced as such since that's a statistical 100%, 2 for 2, as opposed to 5 out of 7 but to say the male characters never do is incorrect.

I quit the series right as Robin was introduced, so I don't even remember Franky or Brook and I have no idea who Law even is. I just got really annoyed that Robin was the third female character to be introduced that way (so it's really 3 for 3, even if Vivi was the worst villain ever; she was still introduced as one).

Usopp I'll have to disagree on. When he was first introduced, everybody seemed to trust him immediately, despite knowing that every other thing coming out of his mouth was horseshit.

To be fair though, the first episode of a, what, now roughly 720 episode long series is hardly a good estimation of the quality of an anime plot...

Maybe not the quality of the plot, but I think it's a good estimation of how much you're going to like or hate it. The first episode is supposed to be the hook. The thing that makes you want to see more of it. If the first episode fails to make that impression, or if you find you absolutely can't stand one of the major characters, I think it's fair to judge that the show might not be your bag.

That was the case for me with One Piece. I watched the first episode and hated Luffy, and since he's the main character there's a pretty good bet I wasn't going to like the rest of it.

True, but I've also been wrong in the past about a series before. I judged it by the first episode or just by one character and when I gave it a shot again a few years down the line, I realized that I indeed started to like it.

Same happened with Harry Potter. Started reading the first book when I was 12, disliked it. Didn't like Harry at all. I still don't like him a lot, but I gave it another shot and realized that I liked other things about it.

Also, I can totally get your point if it's a show that's only 12 episodes long. Usually, the pacing has to be faster, the most important characters are shown within the first or second episode, so you know that if you didn't like it from the get-go, you won't like it in the future. However, long series such as One Piece, Dragonball, Naruto (or any other for that matter) usually develop over time. The interesting characters get added later on and the relationships between the protagonists grow.

Judging all of it on just 20 minutes... idk how people can do that.

That being said, I don't like Luffy a whole lot either. I find him funny and he's a great friend to the others, but his ditziness gets tired after a while. However, the others...

I also admit to not having a whole lot of patience for long series (40-50 episodes is about my limit unless the writing is very tight), so the thought of putting up with a character like Luffy for a gajillion episodes was an even bigger turn-off.

I just got back into One Piece after about 13 years of not reading it so much love for this secret <3

That being said, I would find it a bit limiting to only like one thing for ages. I like so many anime (and the list is constantly growing... *gulps*) that I wouldn't even want to choose a favorite.
