Aren't some of those characters space rocks? I thought the space rocks were non-binary.

They're presented as female and referred to with female pronouns in the show. They're "non-binary" by alien terms, but they are female characters.

That's sort of a technicality. They all present as women and refer to their leaders as matriarchs and so on.
