Undercover Boss

Kind of inspired by the SW secret, though mostly I just haven't seen it discussed here.

I think I'd like it better if it actually addressed concerns (unhappy employees, bad pay, etc.) rather than offering "training" and giving people supposed full rides to college. (That may not be as full ride as it seems.)
The rewards seem heartwarming, but they don't actually solve the problems.

Also, it's amazing when the CEOs are shocked that not everyone loves their jobs. Of course sometimes the employees are idiots, if you don't like your job either get a new one or at least don't be an asshole, but still. A lot of cashiers don't love being cashiers.

Basically this. A single employee gets a raise, nice....but there are still 500k people being paid 7.75$ to stand around and peddle merchandise it would take five years for them to afford.

I hate the idea of this show. CEOs who make way too much money helping out a couple individual employees to boost their image without helping their employees generally. There are few episodes where they seem to genuinely care and want to do the right thing. But for the most part no.

The opening of the show just about states that right. "In these difficult times, we want the public to like CEOs again!" Not those words, but still.

I think I'd prefer a show that was the other way around, honestly.

It seems fake & scripted to a cringe-worthy degree, but that's most reality TV!

Pretty sure there are few less scripted shows than Undercover boss. I watched four episodes and each one was utterly cringe-worthy. How convenient that each one had multiple employees with tragic backstories they were willing to spew to someone while training them on their first day on the job. -__-

It's been awhile, but I don't recall any of my managers ever doing that while they were showing me around the stock-rooms and registers.

I like to amuse myself by imagining an episode with my boss... who owns a very small company and we all know what she looks like because we work with her every day.

"Kathy? Why are you wearing that fake mustache?"

LOL. Same here...

I like to imagine our corporate, because I have SO many issues I would finally be able to rant about. "(Our computer system) has actually caused a lot of anguish for clients... one was on her way to a kidney transplant, the program wasn't working and she died waiting..."

Stuff like this just seems like a fun activity for rich people who value their judgment of others way too highly. Of course, since the people in these shows supposedly want to keep their jobs, they have to play along.

I can't believe the claims that most of the CEO's have of "starting out at the bottom." So they're just like everybody else at the company! Then they show up and have no idea how to deal with customers or do grunt work.
