My mind went directly to Kylo Ren = radicalized European teenager defecting to ISIS before school shooter.

That's why the idea of Kylo being redeemed in canon makes me want to puke.

I am mostly afraid they will handwave Ren's actions by saying he was brainwashed by Snoke and he has no agency over what happened, and then won't be punished.

personally I'm pulling for a redemption equals death thing but idk that might just be me. Its a good compromise imo

While I do think that is a very apt description, I don't know why you think those people are not "redeemable".
