X-Files Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I started one last night, but it was late, so:

Anyone watch the X-Files season premier last night? Thoughts? Reactions? Going to watch the second ep tonight?

I'm watching now! I know people were unimpressed by it but 1) the original series had its quality issues too and 2) I would literally watch Anderson and Duchovny in anything they are SO charming together.

I've gotta say, I'm really happy to hear this. I was worried the first episode would scare viewers off.

I liked it! Gotta get home to see the second ep now!

I thought it was worth watching another episode or two. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the humour of the original.

I also think they need to reconnect with the humor of the original. Duchovny is really missing his comedic marks but he's usually pretty good about that so I hope he gets better in upcoming episodes. Also, Darin Morgan (who wrote some of the funny episodes) wrote the next episode, so I'm hoping it's more solid.

wait, shit, the one on tonight wasn't the first one?

goddammit no wonder I was so confused.

also: they got real old and saggy.

Spoilers, obviously

I thought the first part was shaky as hell. Better than the movie in some ways (characterization and acting IC) but worse in ways of continuity. I'm frustrated by how easily Mulder is renouncing his beliefs about aliens and Scully is believing everything. I think that they don't have to go so far in the opposite directions. I also thought that it came off as kind of "political agenda" ish (though I, myself, am the second most liberal of democrats, I HATE media that preaches).

Tonight's episode was better but definitely suffered some rough spots. They keep having the characters assert information without showing them learning the information. Scully seems lifeless to me and Mulder seems like he has a head cold.

Surprisingly solid entry for James Wong, whom I've always held is one of the drier writers. I'm looking forward to the next entry and think it'll get better as they start feeling their feet.

Way to tug at my heartstrings with those parenting fantasy sequences, show!

Looks like next week might be a funny episode. I always loved those best.
