The Path - Female protag(s)/artsy/ambient/environment. Little bit of animals. I really love this one, everyone ever should play it.

It's sort of horror, yeah, but not like...in your face horror. More of an atmospheric melancholy/subtle dread. It's hard to explain, but it's beautiful.

Miasmata has the best mapping mechanic I've seen in a video game, and one of the best uses of the feeling of powerlessness. It also gives you some of the most heart-pounding game-over stories you'll ever have. Do be warned that it doesn't pull any punches--to the same extent that playing Cryostasis will make you feel cold, playing Miasmata will make you feel sick, exhausted, lost, terrified, and determined to survive anyway.

The Fall might be more actiony than you're looking for, but it has some clever puzzles and a pitch-black sense of humor. The protagonist is one of the more inhuman AIs I've seen in a video game, but she's oddly sympathetic as she comes up against the limits of her programming while she struggles to save her human companion. I thought I knew where it was going, and then the ending pulled the rug out from under me anyway.

Miasmata is the one where you're a scientist stricken by plague right? That's on my wishlist!
