I have a 3ds and I'm looking for some new games. It's the NEW one, if that really makes a difference. Right now, the only games I have are Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Pokemon X. I like rpgs, romance (straight is cool, gay is even better), and casual-style games.

Also, I really like Mario Kart but I'm not sure how I would feel about playing it on the small screen rather than large. Does anyone have opinions about this?

I hear Xenoblade for the n3ds is supposed to be good! Haven't played it myself so I can't confirm. I'm trying to think of what I play on my 3ds and my favorite is theatrhythm final fantasy, which is a fun rhythm game and I highly recommend it if you like rhythm games and/or final fantasy.

If you're also open to old ds games, definitely check out Ghost Trick if you can! It's one of my favorite games, interesting puzzles and really fun characters. the Phoenix Wright series is also a classic. Idk I love video games.

TALES OF THE ABYSS. It's basically my favorite JRPG of all time. The characters are wonderful.

Fantasy Life
Yokai Watch
Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon

All of them are fairly time-consuming RPGs, but I'll admit that Fantasy Life can get dry after a while. I enjoyed the plot, but leveling things was tedious.

I highly recommend Rune Factory 4. You can play as male or female and you have several bachelors/bacheloretts to chose from. It's part farming simulator where you need to grow crops for money and collect wood and stone and other materials to craft things, and part action RPG. Any sort of weapon you could want is available (though the battles aren't too difficult) and you need to get through various dungeons to progress the story forward with cut-scenes and boss fights.

There are also animals you can befriend and ride like cute sheep monsters that make an adorable thundering noise as you ride them. The apple monsters that flop sideways and roll crack me up.

If you like The Legend of Zelda, I highly recommend Ocarina if Time 3D and A Link Between Worlds. And probably Majora's Mask 3D, but I haven't played that one yet.

I also recommend either Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, because this generation of Pokemon is doing well for myself.

If you wanna get bled dry for a change, Etrian Odyssey is pretty much the DS version of Dark Souls. Very much in the vein of old-school, grid-based dungeon crawlers.

I know it's a base-breaker for Animal Crossing fans, but Happy Home Designer is great, if you ask me. It's got enough challenge while also being fun, oh goodness.

Also Mario Kart isn't too bad on a smaller screen. I actually found it easier to keep track of but that might just be a personal thing?

Smash Brothers if that hasn't been recced yet. I'm waiting for my new 3DS but I heard the new Xenoblade is good. Fire Emblem Awakening is good if you like strategy games. They are releasing Fire Emblem Fates in the next month.
I have the DS version of Final Fantasy 4 and played it on my 3DS so I assume it will work with new 3DS. I think the thing is that you can't play the new 3DS games on older devices but should be able to play older games on the new 3DS. Anyway don't bother with Final Fantasy 3 because to get one of the classes you have to use the old system of the DS which is now unusable so the mobile version is better.
Bravely Default is good for JRPG but you'd really have to like grinding. I'm still working on that one. Bravely Second comes out in April I believe.
Legend of Zelda is always good. I've played Ocarina of Time, A Link Between Worlds, Majora's Mask, and Hyrule Warriors and they were all fun.

I don't have a console, only my Mac. Which makes it hard because few games are available for Macs. Which I find weird since plenty of games are available for PC and it isn't like the past where Macs weren't common. They are very common now, so why don't they make games for them?

Mostly I like games with a lot of story to them. I tend to love games that are in fandoms I love. I finally got to play Shadows of Mordor recently and loved it. But I've played other things too.

I don't know how you feel about cheeseball 90s sci-fi, but The Journeyman Project is a game that is very near and dear to my heart. It's point-and-click, which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it works well for what it is.

It had an epic remake (Pegasus Prime), and despite its cheesiness, I actually highly recommend it. Great puzzles, all revolving around time travel fuckery.

Journeyman Project 2 and 3 are both great too, but they're a massive tonal departure and you get an AI buddy that you'll either find charming or will make you want to punch a hole through your screen.

Did you ever get into Spiderweb Software? They're not really my thing anymore, but they make a ton of Mac games.

If you have access to the app store, you might want to give Pathways Into Darkness a try. It's free, but it's a pretty tough game (comparable to, say, dungeon crawlers of the time!) It is, however, pretty story-heavy for an early 90s FPS game (partly due to also including adventure game elements) and serves as a prequel of sorts to Marathon, which was Bungie's big FPS series before Halo and Destiny. Here's a guide!

You're actually luckier than me in this regard, by the way -- PID was never ported to PC so in order for me to play it I had to download an old-school Mac emulator. :(

Speaking of Marathon... All three games are available for free across all three platforms. The story in the trilogy is really in-depth and there's a 20-year cottage industry of people analyzing it.

Mind you, these are all old-school FPS games, so there's no shame in putting the difficulty on easy and referring to a guide. I also recommend going into preferences->environments->plugins and disabling anything that looks like a texture upgrade or HD pack if you don't want to wait ages for stuff to load, though this is one of those rare examples where a texture upgrade doesn't completely destroy the atmosphere of the game.

Um, I like pretty much every genre, so what about games that focus on character interaction/development for PC or PS3 (or just games that have really great characters in general)?

Xbox/360

In order with the top 3 all running very close together.

Fable 1-2
Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Battlefront II
The first Buffy game
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I'm having a hard time finishing it but I like the game play and idea.

I play on Nintendo systems and PC, generally lighter games with cuter graphics. RPGs are one of my favorite genres, along with adventure, puzzle, and strategy.

I already play most first-party Nintendo titles, so I'd like to learn about different companies' games!

I also have a PC, but its specs are pretty poor, so anything more advanced than Cave Story probably isn't an option for that platform.

XBox 360. games I really like include the Dragon Age series and Devil May Cry 4.

I do like games with RPG-elements, and I like killing things with swords.

Nintendo DS: Fav games include the Pokémons and Chrono Trigger. Also pretty much all the Marios.

XBox 360, PS4

I'm a big time newbie gamer. The only games I've played are Portals 1&2, Dishonored, and Bioshock. I loved all of those. I love games with compelling stories and visuals.

Anyone got any Vita recs? (Anyone got a Vita at all? lol)

I like female main characters, epic stories, puzzles, RPGs, humor, and/or action games that are forgiving.

PC, PS3, 3DS and WiiU. I tend to like RPGS and sci-fi/fantasy/adventure type games in general, like Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Golden Sun. I also love open-worlds like Skyrim and off-beat stuff like Katamari, Phoenix Wright and Sly Cooper.
