Capaldi was great but I have to take a second and rant about how I'm tired of Moffat and his fake ass death scenes. Like I couldn't even feel anything during that episode (even though Coleman and Capaldi are great) because I knew she wouldn't stay dead.

Ditto. I'm a Clara fan and was totally expecting to cry at her death, but it felt oddly drawn out and I just got a little misty-eyed, but didn't cry. I was so ticked off at the ending they gave her.

SA. Yeah I felt SUPER weird about not having any emotion at her exit because I actually enjoyed Clara and I thought Coleman and Capaldi did very well together, but the writing just totally killed it for me.

Like she had about 3 exits, and that's tacked on top of Moffat's tendencies to give his companions several fake out exits/deaths (like how many episodes did we have where Amy and Rory were saying goodbye?) I just can't be sad about a character leaving when I've already said goodbye.

Agreed. I loved the scene—and I loved her ultimate ending—but if you're going to kill off a character, be serious about it.

The fake out death might not even have been so bad if it wasn't something we had seen before. The idea of her ending itself is interesting (being stuck between one heartbeat and another as a way of being immortal) but the execution was lacking.

Capaldi is a damn good actor if he's actually given a decent script.

Seconded.

(And what an expressive face.)

I fell behind on Who and aren't sure if or when I'll catch up, but IA with this. Capaldi surprised me in an excellent way; he's very talented.

This is a lovely expression, though I don't know the context of the scene.

Ohh, that face broke my heart a little. Capaldi's an amazing actor and I'm loving him as the Doctor.

I have no idea the context of this scene, but that really is a lovely expression

Yes yes yes. His face and his expressions are astonishingly beautiful. I adore him so much.

I truly pity whoever has to play the Doctor after Peter Capaldi, because god D A M N good luck measuring up. What an incredible actor, not to mention an absolute gift of a face (all the right contours)

The look he gives Bonnie near the end of The Zygon Inversion's climax is another stunner, as is when he reveals himself in The Husbands. Just fucking perfection. He's mastered the art of the soulful gaze.

+1000000

I've replayed that moment from The Husbands again and again, because the way he looks at River is so gentle and radiant and incredibly loving. I adore Capaldi, but I've never seen him play a moment like that. And they filmed it just right - let it unfold at the right pace, allowing both the Doctor and River time for their reactions. And then the way he delivers the line, "Hello, sweetie," is this little piece of sublimity in the midst of a goofy Christmas episode.

I'm also partial to his speech at the end which concludes, "…when you need it most, there is a song." So much emotion.

Oh damn it, whhyyyyyyyy do we have to wait a whole year to see Twelve again?
