(Anonymous) 2016-01-27 12:09 am (UTC)(link)As someone whose teen and college years were defined by Harry Potter, his death really struck a sad chord with me. I was devastated as someone who remembered him as Snape.
But I also remembered him from Love Actually, and someone reminded me that he'd been in Galaxy Quest (as a Spock expy, IIRC). I LOVE Galaxy Quest. And I also enjoyed learning what else he'd been in. I had no idea, for instance, that he was in Die Hard! (I have never seen Die Hard, from what I've heard it's... not really my kind of movie, so I had no idea.)
I don't think you should necessarily bash fans who may mostly know an artist for one thing, especially if it's crossed genres and/or depending on their age. However, an actor plays many roles, and it just seems... right to recognize that.
