While that side of the Steven Universe fandom is fucked up and annoying, I think the anti-sjw part of the fandom is just as bad, if not worse.

Same...I will initially side with people who are trying to be inclusive before those people who act like everything is perfect.

[personal profile] blitzwing 2016-01-30 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing says "inclusive" like telling teenagers to go kill themselves, huh?
morieris: http://iconography.dreamwidth.org/32982.html (Default)

[personal profile] morieris 2016-01-30 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't think I had to put 'before going deeper into the situation', but I guess I do.
blitzwing: ([magi] drakon)

[personal profile] blitzwing 2016-01-30 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe you should try not knee-jerk siding with anyone based solely on the fact that you share common beliefs. "Oh these people agree with me a lot, so I'll just side with them before I look deeper into it."
morieris: http://iconography.dreamwidth.org/32982.html (Default)

[personal profile] morieris 2016-01-30 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because approaching a situation with someone going "can you not whitewash someone" and not being an asshole and another person going "ugh everyone is so sensitive what's wrong with sjw!", I want to side with the jackass.
blitzwing: ([magi] drakon)

[personal profile] blitzwing 2016-01-30 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
The entire secret is about the batshit side of the fandom that is willing to bully people into suicide over SJ issues. The nonny you replied to was talking about that side of the fandom in their dichotomy. "While that side [the SJW side that bullied Zamii] is fucked up and annoying, I think the anti-sjw part of the fandom is just as bad, if not worse."

The only appropriate response to that would be "both of them are really fucked up and awful" not "haha yeah I'm gonna side with the ones that got someone to attempt suicide tho cause they say they're for racial equality and I'm for that too!"

Maybe you misread their comment. Or maybe you're genuinely more sympathetic to one side of a group of awful people because they have the right claimed beliefs. You tell me.
morieris: http://iconography.dreamwidth.org/32982.html (Default)

[personal profile] morieris 2016-01-30 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, calling them 'worse' is wrong. Telling anyone to kill themselves is wrong, because not only is it wrong, your point goes out the window as it should, people stop listening, and you're rightfully the bad guy in that situation.

But in a reasonable situation, people advocating for 'sane' SJ (because my idea of sane SJ is not the same as F!S, i've noticed), are going to get my support before the people who bait them, whitewash out of spite, blackface for their cosplay, ect. They may not keep all of it, but i'm never going to side with Anti-SJ(W) people.

My initial comment wasn't clear and that's my fault.

It's cool. I apologize if I was rude about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Can you like chill out and quit jumping on people who disagree with you?
It's not that unresonable to side with social justice, and still not like and disagree with some members of the community.
Not everything is as black and white as you think.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
or change an opinion after going forward.

I think encouraging teenagers to commit suicide is a bad thing. I don't think people should side with those who do that, simply because of shared beliefs. I think that's kinda fucked up. If that's "jumping on someone", well...so be it.

Thanks for ignoring literally the rest of my entire post genius.
You can side with social justice and not like or approve of what people are doing in said social justice circles. .

But lmao no you're right. I totally side with the bullies despite the fact that I openly defended Zamii multiple times and tried to get her hate blogs shut down. Noooope! I apparently side with the bullies now because I haven't rejected social justice and continue to stick to my
beliefs.

Lmao your logic is ridiculous. Youre proving my op right with every replay.

"Thanks [...] genius."

It's always nice to know my work is appreciated.

"I totally side with the bullies"

Now where did I say that?

"I don't think people should side with those who do that, simply because of shared beliefs."

This whole argument started because you assumed that me and mori had no promblem being on the bullies side just because we happen to still like and advocate for social justice; despite the fact that anybody with more then five brain cells can see that's not the case.

I know. A week or two ago I actually saw the anti-sjw fans defend the UK censoring scenes, and claim that homophobia wasn't "a big deal" and "England has a diffrent culture than the U.S. so it's not right for anyone to criticize it" and anybody who had a problem with it was entitled and whiny.
I mean say what you want about the more obnoxious "PC police" part of the fandom, but at least they were rightfully upset about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hope you enjoy telling people to kill themselves, dearie!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not really sure why not liking anti-sjw automatically means I now condone bullying and sucide, but lmao okay.
People like you are litterally proving my point.

The person ayrt is replying to already admitted their post [inadvertantly] read like they were siding with the suicide-encouragers...so you don't have a leg to stand on with your trolling.

Uh, how am I trolling?
And lmao sorry I can't read every single post on this thread at every single
Moment it's published and updated. I have other things I'm preoccupied with in real life, unlike you apparently.

I'd like to agree with this, since Steven Universe fans who're politically reactionary seem like a contradiction in terms and I honestly don't understand what they get out of the show. (Even MLP could be spun as reactionary if you really latched onto the high fantasy/old-school monarchist elements, but there's just nothing to grab onto in SU.) On the other hand, I've never seen them doxx anybody.

[personal profile] maniacal_marshmallow 2016-01-30 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I know right.
Whenever I see a SU themed anti-sjw blogs I always go "???"
Like if you hate social justice, why would you ever watch SU to begin with? It promotes positive portrayals of lgbt people and has tons of diversity, which is soemthing most anti-sjw are infamously known to hate.

I may of never seen them doxx anybody either, but I have seen some threaten it on a daily basis lol.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
This is probably a problem with the definition of "social justice warrior". I suspect a lot of the SU Anti-SJW blogs are defining it as, well, the sort of person who would attack a teenager to the point of driving her to attempt suicide and use her art as an excuse. Usually distinguished from "social justice activist", which is probably what you're thinking of.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think there needs to be a term split between "SJW" that's just going "Man, isn't this queer representation fantastic?" Or even "Man it bugs me when people draw this canonly dark skinned character as a lot lighter than everyone else, so I try to support people who don't lighten them up."

And SJW that's going "You can't ship/like X because it's abusive! And pedophilic! And misogynistic! And racist! And *insert other buzzword that doesn't apply*!"

Like... BuzzwordFandomPolice? FanShamer?

Heck, like how there was someone yesterday in the villain thread screaming that you can't discuss villain origin plots because that's excusing their actions and blaming others and leads to victim blaming and rape culture.
blitzwing: ([magi] drakon)

[personal profile] blitzwing 2016-01-30 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pointless. SJW was already a term split--created to describe those self-described social justice activists/feminists who used SJ to bully others or to further their own agenda.

If SJW has already come to mean just "social justice activist" to many, then it's already caught in the euphemism treadmill--whatever word you come up to replace it will simply suffer the same fate. People will have a different idea of what qualifies and it will be used inconsistently, with some people applying it to everyone who discusses SJ related things.

People will start self-identifying with it and then clueless people who weren't previously familiar with the term will go "wait, why are you using that derogatorily? Those people just want to help minorities!".

If you think it won't happen with a term like "FanShamer" you're more optimistic than me. Because I've already seen plenty of people that will outrightly own up to shaming others--"Some people need to be shamed" is what they say.
