This secret kind of hits me. Because I'm a writer who mostly writes porn, and I often feel like it is the only thing I do well. But I do want to experiment with other things. My shorter non-porn stuff has gotten some positive reactions. And I've got some ideas for what I want to try once I have the time to sit down and really write. But now I'll be thinking that people are thinking this.

I think the writer in this secret probably has more of a problem with change in audience than change in quality, if anything. I just don't think you can expect every person who liked your porn to also want to read your plotty things. But there will also be people who will be interested in the other stuff when they didn't want to read the porn. OP just isn't the audience for the new stuff this person is writing.

I already know I have a hater for one pairing I write because they review every time I write that pairing to tell me I need to go back to writing the other pairing.

lol don't you love those lil shits?

it's possible, but in a way pwp makes it really easy for the reader- enjoyment of the material comes easy to them given the right pairing and kinks, while it is pretty difficult to write!
bringing together the actions, emotions, logistics, psychology... it takes a mastery.

feeling entitled to this kind of entertainment (while understandable) is pretty pathetic.

I'm sure you will write more worthwhile stuff and that you'll profit from your experience.

But that's their problem, not yours.

It's really painful to feel like people are looking down on you as a writer. I've experienced it; it hurts a lot. But the thing is, someone will always look down on your for some reason as a writer or a human being. You can't let it control you.

The people who want to keep you in a box of "only writing short porny things" are probably people you don't need to aspire to please with your life decisions.

Bottom line: your writing shouldn't be about them. Or your choices, or your self-esteem. If you want to try new things, do it. You won't be sorry, no you won't.

Fuck the OP of this secret. If you have a story to tell don't let douchebags like the OP stop you.
