I don't know what's being said here, but the secret is very nice to look at.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
not to be stereotypical here, but moon, rising, dominant, etc

+1000

I relate quite a bit to my sun sign, but those posts are infinitely more fun now that I read the results for my moon & ascendant signs as well. And I loved them a lot to begin with.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Question: how do you figure out your rising sign if the criteria is birth time -- one sign for someone born 5 to 6, another for someone at born 6 to 7 -- and your birth time is exactly at 6:00?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
you're more likely to be in the 6 to 7 block, especially if you're born in the morning. I checked Alabe, starting at 6, my rising didn't change to the next sign until between 8 and 8:30 AM.

exactly.

It took me finding out that my venus and my mars sign were the same, as well as my jupiter and my moon to figure out why I'm deeply emotional but practical but want to take risks for the hell of it.

the sun sign is nice, but it's just the ego, not the id, or the mask you give to the world or how you relate to love or get angry or communicate. *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2016-02-01 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, same, except with being an eccentric weirdo instead of taking risks for the hell of it

If you are talking about the trend of Zodiac sign posts, I hate them. Mostly because I think its ridiculous nonsense.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
it's good fun IMO

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-01-31 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it doesn't bother me that other people enjoy them. I just can't get past how far fetched it is. Part of it is probably that personality wise I don't fit at all what I'm supposed to be (Cancer), so there was never even a small part of me that considered buying into it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree it's nonsense, but I'm fascinated by the systemic nature of it and I enjoy it from an aesthetic point of view quite a bit.

I generally find obsolete cosmological systems and magical theories and things like that really fascinating, though, so

Ah. That makes sense. For me, I don't mind that sort of thing in a fictional world. But my mind is really rational and can't wrap my head around that sort of thing in real life even as a concept.

not ayrt

[personal profile] philippos42 2016-02-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can appreciate the complexity of it while recognizing that it's complete trash, really.

But then, I'm a Gemini. ;)

(Or at least I tell people I'm a Gemini for that joke.)

The thing about the zodiac is that it's always 'you are this, you are that' and they're always *flattering* things (unless it's a snarky one), so *of course* people want to say 'oh, yeah, that's me!'.

But as a rule - yeah, no, zodiac descriptors don't really fit me at all, either.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Has anyone ever actually meaningfully tested this, though?

I mean, I'm familiar with the thing where you write an extremely general and vague - but positive - description and ask people if it describes them and they say yes. But has anybody ever tried writing down extremely definite descriptions and giving them out to people and seeing if there are significant differences in whether or not people identify with them? It seems like it shouldn't even be that hard of a study to execute, really.

As much as I enjoyed astrology as a kid, I don't really care to read random opinions about what the signs maybe like and I disagree with them more than I did with those books astrologers are always publishing. If anything else it reminds me boldface that it is nothing but nonsense.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I was always a perfect example of what I was expected to be based on just my sign (never looked into any of the interactions with planets and stuff), so I always found Zodiac stuff fun, if utterly implausible. I can see your perspective having the exact opposite effect.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You haven't lived until you've gone to Japan and been asked your blood type as if it's the key to your ENTIRE PERSONALITY.

haha, what??

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear you. I am not half horse, nor can I handle a bow and arrow to save my life!

Whinny.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-01-31 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't fret, OP.

The truth is no one is like their star sign and simultaneously like all star signs. Because astrology is nothing but vague descriptions of traits that could theoretically fit any and every personality type, and relies on confirmation bias for people to believe in it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-31 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I have the exact same experience with starsigns. I mean I'm secretly kind of impressed at how every description of my starsign (Leo) is the exact opposite of my actual personality. Despite how vague and positive starsigns are.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-01 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I've noticed the starsigns thing getting a lot of traction, and I can't understand it. I'm going to assume we're all grownup enough to know that starsigns are bunk, so what's the actual appeal here?

Is it a joke? I can't figure it out.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-01 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not fandom, but I was having fun with all the goofy zodiac posts on m Tumblr dashboard, and (I thought) laughing along.

Then it occurred to me that some of my friends seemed to be taking it too seriously. Then they got so angry at NASA for releasing the updated sidereal signs!

I'm trying not to reblog astrology stuff now. I don't want to encourage all that nonsense. :(
