And imo, that's worse than the actual perpetrators.

The fuck.

He stood by. He could have gotten the teachers involved or he could have tried to talk them out of it.

I find inaction and passively letting something like that happen worse than the ones who are doing the bullying. And it's not like he was some unaware innocent bystander here.

Yes, this is why we should jail people who see a murder happening and don't interfere, alongside the murderer. Because they are just as bad.

What the actual fuck.

I SAID if they KNOWINGLY see this happen. As in, they have prior knowledge of this thing happening. And Lupin has known and most likely done some of teh same bullying to Snape that James and Sirius did. So yes, he's just as bad if not worse than they are because he just let it happen, even smiling and the like as they did it.

Innocent people who happen to come across a murder are not the same, you idiot. And HOPE those people report it, otherwise...then yeah, that's kind of terrible.

Learn to READ you goddamn idiot.

This whole thread is a bit terrifying tbh!

So...I take it that you'd rather a friend or group of friends accost someone that you all don't like and do that to, and even if YOU don't participate, you'll just let them do it?

Ok then. Remind me to not piss you off. Cause I would now fear for my life as you wouldn't give a shit.

Accusing real people of things they have never said or done is a lot more risky than doing it for fictional characters. I advise you not to try this outside of the anonymity of fandom.

Why?

Because, to me, it implies you don't care. Especially if it's people you know and love doing it to someone you don't like or care about.

That's callous as shit and doesn't sit well with me.

This makes absolutely no sense to me given the text, I'm afraid. Not only are we shown that Lupin feels bad about what he did, we also know he repeatedly thinks he is unworthy of friendship and love and presumably wants to hang on to the friends that he has. Snape meanwhile is someone who is cruel, unkind and wants people like Lupin exterminated anyway. That's aside from the normal complexities of childhood relationships, where turning on your friends is not easy at the best of times. Saying he was callous doesn't fit with what we know about the characters or human behaviour, any more than saying James was an irredeemably bad person because he did something cruel as a child. I'm all for the death of the author, but not ignoring what the author wrote entirely.
