Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

I get really annoyed when straight (or gay, I guess) people admit to being confused over attraction to trans people and are met with overly dramatic (usually in the form of overly-punctuated but sometimes variations of ALLCAPS with a bold/italics combo and cursing) "BUT TRANS___ ARE ___!"

I mean, for example: Transmen are men, YES. But they don't have the natural equipment that is generally desired straight women or gay men. Some people can deal with it. Some can't. Either way, it can be a confusing time and hostile asses don't help.

I have a feeling it's more about how statements are framed than the intent of the speaker.

Saying you think pre-op trans woman is hot but you're not sure how you'd feel about women with a penis is still validating that she is a woman while addressing that it's a physical compatibility issue, whereas saying you think she's hot but "she's a he" is invalidating the identity as well

I agree. Obviously trans men and women know their own gender. That doesn't mean they physically reflect that, or that non-trans people's sexual orientation is always "politically correct". Yes, if someone is really passing and their genitals reflect their gender then yes, maybe we can talk about transphobia. But if their genitals don't match their gender, or they aren't passing, how can you claim that? We should respect people's sexual orientation as much as we respect gender identity.

As a trans guy, I agree. Save your theatrics for the assholes who say I'm a woman mutilating my body and will never be a man, not the people who express genuine confusion without hatred.

And yeah, some women can't get past the state of my junk. It's demoralizing when it happens, but that doesn't make all of them awful people by default.

I agree so much. The other day there was a post on my Tumblr dash, one of those "uwu there's nothing wrong with you so please love yourself uwu" validation posts, and this one was about how being a lesbian is beautiful and natural so don't be ashamed of being a woman who only loves women.

The author of the post reblogged her own post to say "And all you TERFs I see reblogging this, lesbian doesn't mean what you think it means and I hate you." And yes, TERFs are disgusting, but in the post's context it sounded like she was accusing all lesbians who aren't attracted to trans women of being TERFs. Which is unfair and creepily implies that lesbians need to be okay with penis in their sex and, hmmm, what does that remind you of?

DA. There's a surprising amount of TERFs on tumblr. I wouldn't be surprised that the OP reblogged it back to clarify as you can't go two steps in lesbian tumblr without running into a TERF who spends hours each day harassing bi and trans women.

What is a TERF?

Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist.

Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist. They believe trans women aren't real women and spend a lot of time trying to keep them from taking advantage of resources for women.

Ew, wtf. Sometimes (a lot of times) people just piss me off.

To be fair, that might have been a reply to specific TERFs who were saying things on the post. It's kind of hard to track those things on tumblr.

God, this. People have preferences that they just might not be able to get over.

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

Agreed. Some people just aren't sexually attracted to penises/vaginas/what-have-you. The gender of the person the genitals are attached to isn't going to magically make them feel sexual desire towards something that they just don't get turned on by.

Well, I identified as lesbian and had that awakening with a trans man, complete with the "he's a dude but he's hot, what??" moment. Does that count?

Does it count for what?
