I don't have a strong opinion regarding who should get the Democratic presidential nomination.

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

Me neither. I would honestly be okay with either one because both of them have views on things that I agree with and support.

I don't, either. I'll vote for whichever of the two wins the nomination, though, I know that much.

Well, then. If it doesn't matter, might I urge you to #feelthebern if you are an American of voting or caucusing age when your primary rolls around. :)

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

(Anonymous) 2016-02-05 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Shouldn't you make some argument as to why someone should #feelthebern if you are urging for someone to vote on him?

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

Not when it doesn't matter to OP. Why waste both our time?

By making a good argument you could have made it matter?

Stop making it creepy

What's creepy?

Really? They're very different candidates, though.

I'd vote for a ham sandwich if it keeps Rubio or Cruiz out of the White House. (Both promise discriminatory policy and legislation that would affect me and mine.) But Clinton and Sanders both have their strengths and faults, so neither would be ideal.

I don't, either.

I do have a lot of feelings about the various arguments both sides are making, but I'm trying to keep them inside and not post about them online, because boy is that a million years of headache with no reward whatsoever.

Co-signed. I had to ban all the Bernie memes pages from my Facebook timeline because, while I love his policies, his fans were swiftly making him look like someone I couldn't vote for.

Wow, is that stupid.

You can judge a man by the company he keeps. His company, at least on Facebook and the few blogs I've seen his campaign discussed on, is overwhelmingly mosogynist, patronizing, infantile, uninformed, naive, divisive, paranoid, and illogical. Not that everyone who "feels the Bern" is all or even one of those things, but they sure do drown out whatever reasonable ones there are. Would you want to be grouped in with those people?

I know propaganda, and the propaganda from the Bernie crowd feels every bit as dangerous as that coming from the Trump camp. Largely because they both seem designed to get Trump elected.

SA: just to clarify that last sentence: I'm not saying that I think Bernie supporters are pro-Trump. It just feels so similar to the rhetoric that Nader fans were using to get Bush elected.

Do you think that Bernie Sanders is giving each person who ever says anything about him on Facebook a seal of approval? You can't control who likes you.

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

(Anonymous) 2016-02-05 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
You say that as if people don't support candidates who share their views.

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

(Anonymous) 2016-02-05 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's, again, so overwhelming in pro-Bernie places that his silence is a tacit endorsement.

Bernie Sanders has a lot of obnoxious followers, no doubt about that. I mostly encounter them on youtube vids, which are already awful, but the rabid Bernie stans somehow manage to be even worse than the average. So I absolutely get hating them.

But if you watch some interviews with Bernie you see that he's not at all like that. If his campaign is aware of how awful some of his followers behave I would guess that they deliberately don't chastise them. The social media generation is Bernie's main voting base + his only media exposure, at least till now.

(I have no horse in this race. I'm not American, so the only thing I care about is that a Democrat makes it into the White House.)

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

(Anonymous) 2016-02-05 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT - My thoughts exactly. I tried to explain to one person why people might see Bernie as just as extreme as Trump, and her argument was "well that's not true." WOW. OMG. You sure changed my mind. So at best a lot of them seem a tad naive, at worst they yell at you for being a horrible person if you don't like Bernie Sanders, which I have also seen.

But Bernie himself isn't like that, no. I don't 100% feel the bern, but I also don't expect him to police everything on the internet.

Well, first of all, taking a politician at his word is a rookie mistake.

Second of all, the sexist behavior of his supporters has already entered the political dialogue, so it's not the same as expecting him to know everything people who support him do online. And if he knows and remains silent about it solely because it benefits him, that's really not a defense of him in any way. It's no better than him saying so himself.

And it's not like he's an actor or something. He's a politician. His fans are fans of him specifically because they share his views, and that's a link that goes both ways. For whatever reason, his message is speaking to some of the worst in society, and no one seems to care why.

Re: Controversial Opinions / Confessions

(Anonymous) 2016-02-05 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Because regardless of what Bernie Sanders' fans think of women -- regarless of what Bernie himself thinks of women, his policies have always supported women. And that's what matters.
