I've reached a point in my life where I care more about not being an asshole than about being right. I'd rather say things that may very well be wrong than join in on the hate parade against people I don't know and have no grudge against.

If "being right" simply means winning an argument, then fair enough. I would say letting things go is a sign of maturity.

If, on the other hand, "being right" means acknowledging reality and/or protesting when facts are being falsely represented, then in my opinion, keeping mum because you're concerned about being an asshole isn't the more mature decision. It's just the easier one.

There should be a middle ground. You can speak the truth without joining a pitchfork-wielding mob.
