Style thread

Anything style and fashion related. Looks you love, favorite outfit, what you'd like to wear if you could...

I wish I was shorter because all of my jeans show way too much ankle unless I unpick the seams. Even then they're still not as long as I'd like them to be. I envy short people.

Can you buy them from a store that sells Short, Regular and Long jeans?

I can give some recs for websites for tall fashion if you'd like. My sisters are 5'11" and 6'1", so I know where they get their pants and stuff. The taller of the two also really needs tall jackets/sweaters etc because of her long arms and long torso.

I have downloaded an app to sort my clothes and give me style and combo advice. Now I'm waiting for my husband to get out the door so I can photograph all my favorites in peace. I will never tell him I'm doing this - unless it turns out entirely successful. (I'm expecting it to be more work than it's worth.)

Re: Style thread

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds interesting. What's the app's name?

Re: Style thread

Stylicious. But I haven't really tried it yet, so I don't know if it's any good.

I'd wear tight jersey dresses if I didn't look so hideously lumpy in them and I'm not large by any means. Long sleeves on them are even worse.
I have exactly one model of a turtleneck sleevless ribbed dress that works.

Shirts are a no go, because the sleeves are always too tight and the buttons strain across my bust no matter what.

Re: Style thread

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear ya. Breasts just don't work with so many looks. It's bloody annoying.

Re: Style thread

(Anonymous) 2016-02-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is. Doesn't matter that cup-size is just a B for me. Ugh! Shirts keep pulling that peekaboo game.

We've had a trend a little while ago, where the front of baggy tops where overlapping and one could just stick ones hand straight in. Like "hello, just help yourself to my boobs". It looked alright until bending forward...

Go to http://brassclothing.com/ and buy any jersey dress they have: they will make your lumps look like a million dollar sexy parts. I didn't believe it before I saw it either.

This is the one I have that works. https://www.lager157.com/artikel/kl%C3%A4nning-amira (Swede and this is a local store.)

I'm always a bit wary of bying clothes online that I haven't tried on in a store first. Even more so for overseas shipping. They looked good though.

I've been looking for a really cute raincoat for ages, but I haven't found any good ones yet ;-; I really love clothes like this and like this, but this style is usually sold in Asian shops, and their raincoats usually aren't suited for the Welsh climate.

From my experience of Wales (am from the Valleys), this is the only thing remotely suitable for the Welsh climate:

Is it the print or the cape style that appeal to you more? Also, how about these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-WOMENS-BLACK-RAIN-MAC-PARKA-LADIES-FISHTAIL-PLUS-SIZE-RAINCOAT-SIZE-8-24-/151657242398

I have wide hips and a narrower waist (though I'm fat). So when I buy pants often they are loose at the waist. I hate wearing my paints low. I prefer wearing them just above my hips, not at my hips. So loose pants bug me. I end up having to wear a belt a lot.

My other fashion problem is that I'm obsessed with calf high boots. Only I have wide calves. Really wide, muscular calves. And I've never been able to find a pair of boots above the ankle that will fit. Someday when I have the money I will get custom boots. Until then I will just stare jealously at everyone wearing awesome tall boots.

Get pants that fit everywhere, go to the local (at least around here) dry cleaner who also does alterations, and have them dart the waist in. It won't cost much and your pants will look delightful.

You don't need to get custom boots! Just google 'wide calf boots' - they have stuff at J C Penny, Nordstroms, Zappos, - they're everywhere. Just have to find the style you like.

Good luck!

I bought a leather bodice at the Renn Faire last year and I so want to just wear it in public on a normal day, but I don't quite have the nerve.

I would wear strapless dresses, but I have no boobs and the dresses slide down my body. :(

You can have boobs and have that happen, too. I hate strapless dresses (and holy fuck, tube tops. A disaster waiting to happen!).

I love cardigans and dresses. I'd dress like Bernadette from TBBT every day if I could and had money for cute clothes. I hate how my boobs make so many cute tops look indecent. I wish I could wear tops that are slightly low cut without being a cleavage monster.

Lately I've been realizing how...uh, unabashedly gay a lot of my go-to outfits are. I can't force myself to care much but them's very much the breaks.

I'm finally biting the bullet and buying a suit, which I swore I would never do. I'm really hoping I can find something in a slim/skinny pant - it always seems like 90% of what is in stores is very wide-legged. And wide lapels, too. It's all so very late-90s power suit.

I'm really into monochromatic outfits and androgynous styles. I wear a lot of short skirts and tucked shirts but some day...

I really like these:
