Well said.

There are some people who just seemed to get dealt a really raw hand in life, and while that certainly doesn't excuse any horrible things they do, it's easy to feel bad for the rough circumstances they DID grow up in, and wonder how they might've turned out had they had some sort of stable influence somewhere along the way.

I'm always interested in stories of victims who can forgive and show empathy towards the people who committed horrible crimes against them or someone they love. People tend to often assume that victims of violent crimes will naturally and automatically be all about seeking revenge or calling for the criminal's death, and no, that's not always the case.
