(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)The majority of Israeli citizens are NOT originally from America; they are from European, Middle Eastern, and North African countries. A huge percentage of them are descended from European Jews who left Europe after WWII, and half the population of Israel are Arab Jews who went to Israel because they were kicked out of the countries surrounding Israel, where their families had lived for centuries.
This is not something that happened in the distant past either. Just a few months ago, Yemen's Jewish population was told to GTFO.

One of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, destroyed. But you don't care about that, because they're not Palestinians.
Here's a fun graphic showing more examples of this phenomenon:

Jews being slaughtered, persecuted, and exiled all over the place. And where did most of them end up going? Israel.
Furthermore, whether you like it or not, Jews ARE indigenous to the Levant (an area that includes Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria). They have as much of a right to live there as the Palestinians. ALL Jewish populations can trace their ancestry to the Levant. The theory that "European Jews aren't REALLY middle eastern in origin; they're Khazars!!!!!" is a theory has been debunked many, many times.
Maybe you should actually do some research into a topic before taking a position on it.

This is a bullshit argument and you should be goddamn ashamed to make it.
I support the existence of Israel but come the fuck on, man. That is a terrible, worthless argument. Israel is not some kind of ancient transcendent birthright of all Jewish people. It is a physical territory with specific physical people living in it, some of them Jewish, some not. And Jews have come there from around the world, and that's great, but the idea that there's some kind of unlimited mystical national being there - please don't try to hand us that bullshit.
Israel has the right to exist and the Jewish people have a right to a homeland, but it's not an unlimited right. And please get your goddamn house in order, if you want us to take Israel and supporters of Israel seriously as committed to the plight of prosecuted peoples. Or - if you don't care about the well-being of human beings general and are only trying to get the best you can for the Jewish people - that's absolutely fine, and I respect that, but don't expect anyone to treat you as anything other than a particular nationalist politician like any other nationalist.
Re: Controversial (Non-Fandom) Confessions
(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)I actually agree with what you're saying, though? It's not a great argument. But unfortunately, it's an argument that has to be made in response to an even stupider argument that always, always comes up in these sorts of discussions; namely the stupid-as-fuck historically inaccurate "JEWS HAVE NO RIGHT TO LIVE IN ISRAEL BECAUSE THEY ARE KHAZARS!!!" argument
"the idea that there's some kind of unlimited mystical national being there"
Not what I said at all. That's you reading shit into what I actually did say, which was: Jews originate from the Levant, and they have the right to live there.
And they do have the right to live there. If I had said "they have the right to live there as much as ANYONE has a right to live ANYWHERE" would you still haven objected to that statement?
Anyway, the reason I brought that up in the first place is because the truth is, whenever the topic of Israel comes up you can bet that at some point some asshole's going to pop up saying "BUT ISRAEL WAS FOUNDED BY WHITE EUROPEAN COLONIZERS WITH NO HISTORICAL CONNECTION TO THE LAND!!!!! EUROPEAN JEWS ARE DESCENDED FROM KHAZAR CONVERTS, NOT THE ~REAL~ JEWS!!!!!"
I wanted to cut that argument off before it had a chance to rear its ugly head, because it's entirely untrue and I'm sick of hearing about it over and over and over. There have been numerous tests done; genetics don't lie. European Jews do in fact originate from the Levant along with all other Jews; they are NOT Khazars.
(And for some reason the people who make the "BUT KHAZARS!!!!" argument never seem to want to hear the opinions of the people they think of as ~the real Jews~, the Mizrahim (a.k.a. Arab Jews). Being partly Mizrahi myself, I gotta say that I really fucking hate being tokenized in this way.)
