I hate wherever this appears in fandom and it’s somehow become ‘the norm.’ I could be in the most obscure corner of fandom and there's bound to be someone jumping on the bandwagon and making guys have periods and pissing on each other in heat and KNOTTING...as if I need all that shit in my life.
I don't know how/why it's become so popular but I don't want it. Ever.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)2. You sound like someone who knows almost nothing about Omegaverse fanfic, but is content to remain ignorant because ignorance allows your hatred of this trope to flourish unimpeded by pesky reality. I've read maybe a hundred Omegaverse fics, and I've never read one where Omega males have periods. Nor have I read one where they piss on each other. I'm sure there are Omegaverse fics that involve those things, but acting like they're the norm is extremely disingenuous.
Ultimately, the only elements I can think of that are common to all Omegaverse fics are...Omegas, and some kind of heat. I've read Omegaverse fics where Alphas don't exist, and Omegaverse fics where Betas don't exist. I've read Omegaverse fics where knotting doesn't exist, and Omegaverse fics where Omegas are all infertile. I've read Omegaverse fics where heats are mild enough for the characters to ignore them if they want to. I've read Omegaverse fics where Omegas are hermaphroditic and therefore don't have self-lubricating bums. I've read extremely gender-essentialist Omegaverse fics, and also fics that very actively refute gender essentialism. I've read non-consensual Omegaverse fics, and I've read very thoroughly consensual Omegaverse fics. I've read Omega/Omega fics, and femslash Omega/Omega fics, and even Asexual!Omega fics.
Now obviously you don't have to read or like Omegaverse fics. But there's so much variety in Omegaverse fanfic that it really doesn't make much sense to claim you hate Omegaverse across the board.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-13 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)like good god if you want to write cuntboys just write cuntboys instead of incredibly contrived bizarre asscunts
also, man, I keep TRYING to like/read ABO anyway, because I love sex pollen dubcony stuff, I love society-is-rearranged AUs, I love domestic shit, i love genderfuck
but the vast majority of ABO still squicks me the fuck out, maybe not for one common thing that all of them has, but because of a constellation of things that most of them have some of. it's not unreasonable to treat the trope as a collective because it's diverse, but it's not actually that diverse
also, some kink memes got REALLY swamped with it, even if not every prompt got written, every page had at least a few ABO prompts. At that point you feel like you really can't get away from it without just leaving the fandom. which happens sometimes, if fandoms get into things you aren't into, but it still sucks.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 12:29 am (UTC)(link)This is where our experiences of Omegaverse differ, is guess. In my experience, it really is that diverse.
Personally, I've read quite a few Omegaverse fics that squicked me the hell out, so my defense of the Omegaverse is not coming from a place of loving everything about it. I dislike gender essentialism, and I dislike non-con. Those things are very much not my kink, and they do show up a fair amount in Omegaverse fics. But I love knotting, and I love mating urges fics, so I kept reading and the more I read the more diversity I found.
I guess if you really hate the idea of a strong top/bottom dynamic in your slash fics (which it sounds like you do?) then Omegaverse really isn't for you. But I've read plenty of Omegaverse fics where the Omega likes to top sometimes - just usually not when they're at the height of their heat. So if you wanna call one character bottoming most of the time a het dynamic, yeah, I guess Omegaverse does have that. I disagree that it has anything to do with "icky vaginas" though.
I mean, personally, my shipping history has been het OTP, het OTP, het OTP, het OTP, slash OTP. Suffice to say, I like female characters a lot. And while I'm not attracted to vaginas, I enjoy smut involving a vagina a lot. If anything, I think some women find Omegaverse hot because it's not anchored down by their own personal experience of sex. In that light, it's not that women find vaginas icky. It's that most women have a vagina, and therefore it's often harder for us to suspend disbelief when it comes to unrealistic sexual fantasies when they involve vaginas.
As for Omegaverse being Gor-esque...well, it certainly can be. I've read a few of those. But I've read more Omegaverse fics that reject or subvert Gor-esque dynamics than ones that accept them at face value and fetishize them. And of course, as always, there's a spectrum.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 04:29 am (UTC)(link)Actually I'm kind of with you on this one. I'm into ABO fic heavily, and I like dub-con sex-pollen fic as long as it's clear that everybody would have been banging like bunnies anyway if they weren't too shy/reserved/scared of losing a friendship/whatever, but....
I want more cuntboys in ABO fic. I've read some, and it's literally all I'll ever write even if I enjoy non-cuntboy ABO fic sometimes, but I do feel like you do, there's this weird aversion to writing cuntboys. The self-lubricating buttholes start making me a little ill after awhile, because the descriptions sound pretty much exactly like the aftermath of explosive diarrhea. (Seriously, "he reached back and found his partner's hole slick and open, warm fluid everywhere, staining the seat of his underwear, the scent heavy in the air...")
Re: Transcript by OP
(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 07:43 am (UTC)(link)You say you want more cuntboys in ABO. Do you mean a universe in which all male-identifying omega are hermaphrodites? Or a universe in which all omegas who identify as men have only vaginas? Or do you mean you just want to see more non-op or pre-op trans men in ABO fics?
Either way, the fact that people aren't writing any of these that much does not strike me as a "weird aversion" to vaginas or to men with vaginas. I would take it at face value and call it a completely valid preference for reading smut involving dicks and anal.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 01:02 am (UTC)(link)Almost all the Omegaverse fics I've read have been in the Sherlock fandom. And a couple in the Suits fandom. I wish I could give recs for a broader spectrum of fandoms, but I'm basically fandom monogamous, sticking with one fandom for years at a time. So basically, I know a fuckton about a couple of fandoms, and not much about any others, except whatever I absorb by fandom osmosis.
Re: Transcript by OP
That's so cool! I'm forever hopping from fandom to fandom, then come back to the old ones, repeat ad infinitum.
I read one interesting ABO interpretation in an X-men fic where Alphas were considered violent and unintelligent so they were discriminated against.
