I felt like it was a really heavy-handedly unfunny attempt to outdo Brooklyn Nine-Nine, by making practically everything into a joke. Everything.

I don't think that was the idea, though. If you look back at shows like Police Squad (as the secret mentions) and the Naked Gun movies, that's what Angie Tribeca is trying to do. Whether or not they're doing a good job of it is another issue, but there's no question that those shows are their main influence, not Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Have to agree with previous comment. If you'd ever seen Police Squad, Airplane! or the Naked Gun movies, you'd get what Angie Tribeca is trying to pull off. Its similarity to Brooklyn Nine Nine is relatively superficial in comparison.

Maybe it's the delivery of said puns/gags? I know I've been turned off by something I should've liked because it felt like they were trying to hard/forcing the humor by just jamming it in instead of letting it happen naturally.

I'm just really happy about the Police Squad mention. My dad introduced me to that. I will forever be sad that it was cancelled by a really stupid network. It was so good. The Naked Gun movies are okay (and Airplane which has the same sense of humor is great). But the tv show was best.

I agree! I just about died with happiness the first time I saw those opening credits, "IN COLOR!", Abraham Lincoln, everything. It is perfection.

To me, it's because it's just TOO... everything. Trying too hard, the gags go too far, the jokes, everything. I get that it's a parody but parodies only work up to a point. For me, at least. I really wanted to like it and I really thought I'd love it and then I quit halfway through the pilot.

The only part I liked was the dog.

It's so dumb and try-hard to the nth degree. I had high hopes for it too but damn, its just stupid.

i haven't seen the show but tbs really needs to reconsider their advertising strategy, because i went from being neutral towards rashida jones and samantha bee to hating them.

Hmmm, let me guess... conventionally attractive women being too loud, strident, daring to be funny and the stars of their respective shows? Ugh, amirite?
