Well, they have ultra curvy bodies, too, which I'd imagine helps a hell of a lot.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That's true.

Hm.

Sorry I got lost there thinking about what you said.

I don't see your point OP, since Tali doesn't show her face it just allows people to imagine her with the prettiest face they can think of.

I haven't seen that in practice. People who give Tali a face give her an alien face, and people who make porn of Tali leave her mask on.

This is actually a really interesting secret!

I think honestly the appeal to nerdy guys is partially that Tali is a nerdy girl. I also think Liara was creepy and possessive enough in ME1 to turn people (male and female alike) off of her a little bit. And, of course, as another anon said, she's very curvy, and she has a really neat voice with a cool accent...she just hits a lot of buttons I think. The mask may also be part of it but I really doubt it's the #1 factor in her popularity.

Tali was MAI WAIFU, but not because of a mask fetish. She was just the least annoying romance option out of all of them.

I would much rather have romanced Zaeed or Kasumi but noooooo.

Wait, Zaeed?! Why?! He was the worst character in ME2 by far. I'd have been so incredibly pissed if I paid extra money for him.

+1. Least favorite squadmate with the possible exception of Ashley...nah, still probably least favorite.

Don't forget Morinth.

(On second thought, do forget Morinth. The third game sure did.)

Oops, I forgot Morinth.

I didn't recruit her though and don't really have any interest in doing so.

(To be fair, I did think she was a good character. Just not someone I'd ever want to romance, heh.)

Because you have bad taste, I guess?

Everyone else was boring and whiny and wanted to talk about ~feelings~ or something. I would have loved a Mass Effect relationship that consisted of talking about war stories and favorite weapons and occasionally fucking*.

That's how I like my irl relationships to go. Mainly just hanging out and talking about cool stuff with the occasional sex and maybe an "I love you" once a year or so.

*Maybe Garrus was kind of like this, but I didn't play as femshep so I have no idea.

I-I liked Zaeed.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't the male fans pushing Tali. They were all hung up on liara and miranda. It was the lesbian and genderqueer fans pushing the alternative body types of Tali and bald!jack, you can fucking keep your heteronormative "She's allowed to be sexy now that she has some hair" jack, tho.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-15 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the people I've seen obsessing over Tali have been men, though! Also, Liara and Miranda have a lot of haters, but I don't think I've ever seen someone hating on Tali?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-15 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Every single dude I know hated Miranda, lol. And all the queer girls were all over Liara. Tali was basically the halfway point: everyone loved her.

Gotta disagree with you on Tali having an "alternative body type" tho...just 'cause she's wearing a mask doesn't mean she's not svelte with all the right curves and a nice bust-waist-hip ratio. She's pretty basic, body-wise.

that's an interesting perspective

my (straight nerdy male) friend who got me into ME crushes on Tali hardcore, but that's just one anecdote...

lol, I definitely like the look of people with half covered faces or hidden eyes.

Bleach has quite a few characters who grow masks as part of their powers.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-15 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't a character being faceless makes it easier to fetishize them?
