(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, a good fic (fanfic or original) should have you really empathizing with the characters and the plot. So in that sense, reading a good fic about some kind of religion or faith can really move me and in the context of that story, I can feel, err, religiously inspired, even though I don't have those beliefs. Is that what you mean?
But the only religiously-themed fic I seek out is Jesus/Judas porn so I'm not sure if we're on the same page lol
OP
(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)Sometimes in fics you have character A who is very religious and even though I'm an atheist I find it very inspiring. Which is kind of weird to me tbh. But when their beliefs are so strong I guess I kind of get swept up in it.

It was the first time that I could really empathize/comprehend religiousness and see some appeal outside of "having a cultural community".
maybe because it didn't feel anachronistic, if that makes sense. so yeah, I can see this working in fanfic where the religion is described as integral part of the character and not just taken for granted.
