Haikyuu!!

An anon mentioned it in GC a few days back and I've since binge-watched the anime, caught up with the manga and am now reading the fic (of which there is suprisingly much of).

I was pre-destined to like it because volleyball (VOLLEYBALL <3), but I was unprepared for how amazing this series is. The characters are absolutely precious and even the rival teams are great. I love almost everything about this series. <3

I started the manga yeaaars ago but kept putting it off (and I'm still nowhere near caught up), but I really do love it a lot. I'm always a sucker for sports manga, and this one is especially cute. The characters are super likeable, the matches are well written, though I've heard the fandom is kinda shitty, which is disappointing?

In the beginning I had a few problems following the action in the manga, probably because I started with the anime on anon's recommendation. The animation is really good, but that made following the matches in the manga a bit hard for me (but then Haikyuu!! is the first sports manga I've ever read. I've watched a few sports anime, but that was before I started reading manga).

So far I'm on AO3, looking for fic. I haven't had any interactons with the fandom at large. In what sense is it shitty? Ship wars? Character bashing? If the fandom is shitty that would be super disappointing. It's such a cute manga!

Okay, personal experience, but Haikyuu fandom is pretty chill actually. I haven't seen ship wars at all. It's probably because there's little overlap between the main pairings, as they are conveniently paired-off with each other in canon (Kags/Hina, Tsukki/Yams, etc), and it's very multiship friendly, from what I've seen. (Finding stuff for the rarepair of your choice though, is another matter, but I'm sure pixiv has you covered ahaha).

Character bashing, I haven't seen either. The female characters, who's usually the brunt of this when it comes to slash-dominated fandoms, are pretty much loved.

I think the fandom's better than most other fandoms of its kind (hugely popular show with lots of attractive male characters, plus being anime). I don't participate much, but I practically live in the Tumblr tag when I'm bored sometimes. There's almost no drama or ship wars, and there are lots of really good regular fanartists on Tumblr. There are occasional typical Tumblr posts about trans or autistic or "everyone has a special snowflake sexual orientation" headcanons, but they're not terribly common or aggressive.

Oh, that's good to hear, thanks! Now I feel guilty about spreading around shit I wasn't 100% sure about, haha. My bad, Haikyuu fandom!
