I tell people I never read Outlander because period romances aren't my thing. I like historical fiction, just not with almost total romantic focus.

Truthfully that's only a small part of it. Mostly I couldn't get past the written-out Scottish accents.

I feel bad about this because I'm of Scottish heritage...

Oh, ugh, I hate written out accents. Not always bad enough to make me put down the book entirely. But really bothers me. I'm also not interested in historical romance (although if it is really explicit I might be interested because I do read erotica, but at that point I'm there for the sex, not the romance which bores me).
