I want links to what Boyega said. I haven't seen anything where he was negative.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have links but iirc he just said that he hadn't played it gay (in contrast to Isaac who pretty much did)

How is that offensive? How is a character being straight offensive?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I think more than anything, it's probably one of the hall-of-mirrors telephone slap fights that makes Internet discourse so fun.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
A character being straight isn't offensive. And I don't think the fact that he played the character assuming he was straight is offensive either. But it rather seems that we have no idea if Finn is straight, or bi, or anything, just that he has a crush on Rey, so why assume or close doors? I seriously doubt Finn will ever get a boyfriend or be portrayed as bi, but I hate automatically assigning straight defaults to characters. That includes from the actors' end, too.

Ok, so he has a crush on a female character, the actor playing him says he's straight, but we have no idea if this character in a mainstream Hollywood film that will bring big money in from such countries as Russia and China is straight or not. Got it.

The actor didn't say anything negative, the OP is just messin' with us. Or is butthurt 'cause: 'WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, they didn't give me what I wanted!' It's adorable either way.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so you're guilty of straight-by-default character interpretation as well, yay you.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
The majority is straight. There's nothing wrong with defaulting to it as long as you live and let live on headcanon and don't ignore facts just to keep your default.

'Guilty' lol.

It's cute how you cling to victimhood. Stay mad.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
If everyonewas so concerned about the Russian amd Chinese markets wwe'd never have gay content at all, and we know that isn't the case.

And I'm pretty sure that movies like 'Carol' which feature heavy lgbt content, aren't getting huge releases in those and other very conservative countries. Disney WANTS a big release in those countries and had perfectly measured the content of that movie accordingly.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, many big companies and care a great deal about what China thinks. They are a huge market. They'll change things just to appeal to that demographic, don't be ignorant.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
where did the secret say it was offensive?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't. Nobody here said it was offensive.

You're right, the secret said 'negative.'

Which of course doesn't carry the connotations of the secretmaker being offended at all, nope, not in the slightest.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it said "negative."

Not "offensive" or "homophobic."

Keep reaching.

God knows we can't use our context clues! There is obviously no conceivable way the OP was offended by what was said. I mean, they only switched their shipping preferences based on something very, very innocuous and equally predictable. Nope, no offense taken there.*

Keep trying to get your reading skills up to a third grade level. We're all rooting for you.

*Alternatively, they're just messing with us. It's quite possible.

"How is that offensive? How is a character being straight offensive?"

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't, it's just that the shippers have their ship crushed and take it out on Boyega.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
He originally said it was all in Oscar Isaac's head, though he seemed to backtrack recently and said anything was possible.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
>Backtrack

Because he honestly warmed up to it, or because he was bullied by rabid shippers?

I did see some damage control amongst stormpilot shippers asking them to stop harassing Boyega.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-17 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
>John Boyega
>bullied over the internet by stormpilot shippers

Dude a bunch of overexcited young adults spamming his instagram with stormpilot isn't bullying.
