Re: Why would anyone not a racist, classist xenophobe vote for Donald Trump?

I've seen quite a few leftists and others saying they'll vote for him, because they think he will hasten the collapse of the current political system.

It's a very stupid and morally wrong view and I hope you don't share it.

No worries. I'm feeling the Bern ♥ I know enough about history, and what sudden political collapses and shifts are like, to prefer a gradual and peaceful transition towards more socialist policies.

Right, which is why you're so pragmatic and open towards working with the centrist wing of the Democratic party and don't despise them at all.

What gives you the idea that I'm against working with centrists? I'd even condone working with Libertarians.

Just not Hillary then?

Yep! I don't believe Hillary really subscribes to any political ideology, not hard leftism, not centrism, nothing. She is pure political ambition, about nothing other than securing better political offices for herself (and previously, her husband).

Individual character really does matter, it's not simply whether they have the right beliefs or not. Look at Blagojevich for instance. He had the right ideals, but he was shockingly corrupt.

NA

I can see why people would think that about Hillary, but how much would that ambition matter once she's president? POTUS is the highest political office she could possibly get, and the one she's been working towards all her career. Once she's elected she doesn't have to care about making alliances that will help her advance, she's already at the top.

But if she has no beliefs deep down, what will she do once at the top?

Now, unlike Blitzwing, I think Hillary does believe in a few things.

But I could also see her being tempted to start a war with Iran for a quiet promise from the oil tycoons of, say, $800 million dollars to the Clinton Foundation after she's out of office. (And given her past behavior, she might be cheaper than that!)

We've seen on health insurance and on Wall Street that Hillary has a price. She can be bought. She's a danger to herself, and to us if we elect her.

Uhg. The problem with that strategy is that a lot of people suffer leading up to, during, and in the aftermath of such a collapse. I don't want to be ground under a boot heel while waiting for everyone to... up and start a revolution, I guess. I'm also on the far side of 35 and don't have a decade or two to wait for everything to get worked out without it impacting the prime of my working years.

+1 This. I'd much prefer we actually try and stop this stuff before it gets to that point.

A decade or two if you're lucky. Some nations never seem to stabilize once their governments collapse. The violence and corruption go on and on.

Some are; the usual kind that just froth at the mouth for bloody revolution with no real understanding of well, anything. To them Bernie is not radical enough and isn't a socialist.

Others are just desperate people that know what a Hillary term would bring us: no real pushback against the increasing neo-feudalism building in the U.S. If Bernie doesn't get the nomination, they'll vote for Trump.

*Facepalm* Oh, geez.

I'm left-leaning, and I don't need someone super radical or whatnot. I just want a Democrat/liberal candidate who can get at least SOME of the policies I support enacted. Certainly it'd be wonderful if they could achieve everything they wanted while in office, but I also know how tough it can be to make that happen sometimes, too. As long as I know they're trying and doing their best, that's all I care about.

I'll vote for him to help hasten the end of the Democrat party's love for HRC. I hate her more than I fear him, or Cruz.
