For one awful moment I thought that last part was about something that happened IRL, and I was like 'WELL YEAH OF COURSE IT WAS.' *cough*

That's actually kind of adorable.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I assumed that too!

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, but I laughed out loud at the last sentence. Anyway, I don't think it's that strange. I usually do the same thing with animals (try to feed or pet them in the game).

I can sort of get that. I love how horses tend to make me feel more immersed in the universe. I'm also really sad if I have to shoot wolves and they make hurt puppy noises :(.

I hate those hurt puppy noises! I wish I could scare them off instead of shooting.

Me, too, OP.

Skyrim was a nightmare because the horses have the courage of a Nord but not the HP. I would get so angry when my horses charged headfirst into dragons and would die like a minute later, before I could hunt them down and try to get them away. And if I got off my horse to do a dungeon, and couldn't find the horse later, I'd be freaked out that the horse was dead... which it sometimes was. Damn it, Frost!

So I went ahead and installed a horse invincibility mod. In theory I like the idea that horses can die, because it means you have to be careful, but fuck it's not fair that they also TRY to die!

I do the same thing with pets in general in games, I have to make sure they're well taken care of even if they're just pixels.

In zelda ocarina of time I always parked Epona at Lon Lon ranch when I went into a dungeon in case "I died in there and never came back."

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
...I use my mounts to jump off cliffs in Dragon Age: Inquisition because they don't take fall damage. Now I feel like an asshole.

(I am inordinately careful of horses in games where they can actually be hurt or killed. But Inquisition mounts are immortal and so convenient.)

This is great. I always feel kind of bad when I make the horses gallop the whole way or on hard ground.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I accidently shot my horse when playing Red Dead Redeption and felt awful. I reloaded the game even though I hadn't saved in almost a hour.

come join us at Star Stable Online... where you can RP being nice to your horse every day... since that is pretty much the point.

And.. there is no shooting the wolves either above anons.

As someone who was an absolute horse nut as a tween and still shakes her head at artistic licence in equestrian matters, I find this awesome! Good for you, OP!

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, just means you care about horses, even in video games.

But hell, you think that's weird? I once caught a ton of chocobos in FF7 on purpose so that I could avoid inbreeding.

I salute you, fellow horse-lover. I worry over my video-game horses too.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was distraught when I thought I'd lost my gift horse in Oblivion. "Just buy a new one!" people said, but I was "but Prior Marobel GAVE me that one! It was MY responsbility!"

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
This is a good secret. I like this secret.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I totally understand you, OP!! I wish I could interact more with Roach. I mean, I talk to him as I'm playing (okay, admittedly, sometimes it's along the lines of 'Dammit, Roach, how did you end up over there?? And why are you stuck on that fence/tree/bridge/wall?') and I'm always careful to dismount away from danger if possible (even though I know he can't be hurt) and I like to make sure he's near other horses when possible, but I'd love to be able to feed him apples or get out a curry comb or whatever ... LOL. They could make it a buff, like sharpening your blades on the whetstones!

I'm the same way with animals in games. I always try to keep them in safe spots when I have to leave them behind, and I always feel bad when something I do ends up killing them.

I'm really trying not to laugh because I'm totally the same way! I came out of a cave and he had run off and I was freaking out that he'd starve out in the snow. I still have no idea where he ran off to!

I asked on a board and they said he ran to the nearest town stables, so I shouldn't worry too much.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I always ride the same horse, no matter what other options are given to me. My only exception to that was Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare where I ride my fave horse then War then switch to the Unicorn as soon as I can.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I would be EXACTLY LIKE THIS. You go, kindred spirit! And my condolences on your horrible accident.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
I get it.
