Re: I don't believe in Tumblr mental illness.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have a tumblr, but it's a hugely popular blogging platform and some of the people posting about their issues (and a whole bunch of people who keep quiet about it) most probably have some kind of mental issues. The internet in general tends to be a refuge for people who have a hard time interacting socially offline (raises hand) for a number of reasons, including various mental illnesses. Yeah, some people are probably lying to the part of the world that reads their blogs. Some of them are lying to themselves. Lots of them are telling what they think is the truth. Lots of them are telling the truth. Probably some of them think they have one mental illness and actually have a different one. It doesn't really matter to me. I just take what they say at face value unless they're using it as an excuse to be an asshole, or, more rarely, I avoid them because some kinds of mental illness, real or feigned, are not good for me to be around. When I'm having a bad patch, other people who have trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality can make my issues worse.
